Blade Runner Officially Returning In 2027 With 2 Huge New Releases

Blade Runner‘s return will be far from just tears in the rain in 2027.

Fans have been waiting for a return to the world of Blade Runner, and now it’s happening with two new releases planned for 2027. One will be a new TV series, Blade Runner 2099, coming to Prime Video, and the other is an immersive, interactive experience developed by Behaviour Interactive and PHI Studio that will launch across North America next year.

Behaviour Interactive is bringing the world of Blade Runner to life with a new immersive experience. This multisensory event promises to transport visitors to a visually stunning and thought-provoking dystopian future, remaining faithful to the original film’s style and themes. The project will launch in several North American cities in 2027, though the specific locations haven’t been announced yet.

Behaviour recently confirmed that Alcon Entertainment is still finishing up production on Blade Runner 2099. This new series will continue the story of Ridley Scott’s original 1982 Blade Runner film and the 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, both of which were inspired by Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The first film starred Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a former police officer who hunts down rogue replicants, while the sequel featured Ryan Gosling as a blade runner alongside a returning Ford.

The upcoming series Blade Runner 2099 will feature Michelle Yeoh, Hunter Schafer, Tom Burke, and several other talented actors including Maurizio Lombardi, Dimitri Abold, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, and Matthew Nedham. Silka Luisa is leading the project as showrunner and executive producer, and Ridley Scott, who directed the original Blade Runner, is also involved as an executive producer. Details about the show are still being kept secret.

As a huge fan of the original Blade Runner, I was thrilled to hear that Blade Runner 2099 is still aiming for a 2027 release! It’s been a bit of a wait, though. We were originally looking at late 2025, then late 2026, so 2027 feels like a long time coming. The last thing we got from the Blade Runner universe was the animated series Black Lotus back in 2021, which aired on Adult Swim and Crunchyroll. I’m really hoping 2099 will recapture the magic of the first film.

After more than forty years, the world of Blade Runner is growing in exciting new ways, with a live-action TV show and an interactive experience planned for next year. Beyond the films, the franchise has also thrived with successful ventures into video games, novels, comics, and documentaries.

After the release of Blade Runner 2099 and its immersive experience in 2027, fans are wondering if the popular series will also get a new movie. Ridley Scott has mentioned wanting to make more Blade Runner films, and the renewed interest in the franchise next year might finally make that happen.
