Apple TV’s Delayed 8-Part Political Thriller Is Finally Releasing This Year After Indefinite Postponement

After a seven-month delay, Apple TV+ has announced that its series, The Savant, will premiere this year.

The new political thriller stars Jessica Chastain as ‘The Savant,’ an operative who goes undercover to investigate online hate groups and stop potential terrorist attacks. The first two episodes were originally set to debut on Apple TV on September 26, 2025, but the release was unexpectedly delayed. Although Apple TV didn’t officially state the reason, many believe the postponement was connected to the September 10th assassination of Charlie Kirk, the CEO of Turning Point USA.

Zoë Chastain recently told Variety at the Breakthrough Prize ceremony that the show, The Savant, is definitely happening. Previously, there was uncertainty about whether it would be released, but Chastain confirmed it will now debut in July – about ten months after its original planned release. The show is a miniseries consisting of eight episodes.

In September, Apple TV announced it was delaying the release of “The Savant,” stating they appreciated viewers’ understanding and would share a new release date later. Actress Jessica Chastain publicly disagreed with this decision, explaining that the show celebrates the everyday heroes who prevent violence, and she felt it was especially important to share their story now.

Jessica Chastain stars in and also executive produces The Savant, a show inspired by the 2019 Cosmopolitan article, “Is it Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?” The article detailed the work of a real person, known as the Savant, who investigates potentially dangerous individuals online – a role Chastain plays in the series. The article’s author, Andrea Stanley, advised on the Apple TV show.

Melissa James Gibson, the creator and showrunner of The Savant, is a seasoned expert in political thrillers. She previously worked on Netflix’s groundbreaking series House of Cards as a showrunner, writer, and executive producer. She also co-created and wrote for Anatomy of a Scandal, another Netflix hit, and contributed to The Americans, a critically acclaimed show from the 2010s.
