People don’t often talk about how great comedy movies were in the 2010s. There were a lot of really memorable films, like Booksmart, What We Do in the Shadows, Bridesmaids, The Big Sick, Crazy Rich Asians, The Nice Guys, and The Edge of Seventeen, just to name a few.

Critics generally loved those films, even though they didn’t always earn a lot of money at the box office. And then there are the movies that did do well financially, but have faded from memory over time. One example is Game Night, released in 2018, which was a successful movie in theaters.

I recently revisited Game Night, and it struck me how successful it actually was – over $100 million at the box office with a budget of just $37 million! Yet, when people talk about the great comedies of that time, this one’s surprisingly absent from the discussion. Honestly, it really deserves to be part of that conversation – it’s a genuinely funny and clever movie that I think people have forgotten about.

As a comedy fan, I can tell you this movie really delivers. The cast is unbelievably funny, the story is completely off-the-wall but with some clever surprises, and I honestly haven’t laughed this hard in years. I’m so glad Game Night is finally on HBO Max – it’s been climbing the charts, and it deserves all the attention it’s getting!

Game Night Is One Of The Best Comedies Of The 2010s

As a comedy fan, I genuinely think Game Night is one of the strongest comedies of the 2010s. What really grabbed me was how incredibly original and fun the basic idea is – it immediately sets you up for some truly wild and funny situations.

The movie follows a group of friends at a game night that takes a terrifying turn. What starts as a role-playing mystery game quickly becomes a real-life rescue mission when the host is unexpectedly kidnapped, and the friends find themselves in increasingly dangerous and chaotic situations.

Critics loved Game Night, giving it an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes – a very high rating for a comedy, especially one like this. The movie also did extremely well in theaters, earning over $100 million. That level of success is rare for comedies.

Game Night Isn’t Often Mentioned Among The Decade’s Top Comedies

Even though it has a lot going for it, Game Night isn’t often included when people talk about the best comedies from the 2010s. It’s a shame, because even movies that critics didn’t like as much tend to get mentioned more frequently.

Everyone talks about comedies like Ted, Grown Ups, We’re the Millers, and Friends with Benefits, but it’s tough to argue those are actually better than Game Night.

The film gaining traction on HBO Max is a good sign. Viewers are noticing the amazing cast – including Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler, and many others – and recognizing the high level of talent involved, which is definitely attracting attention.

Rumors Have Swirled About A Game Night Sequel

As a huge fan, I’ve definitely heard talk about continuing this story, but it’s always been a bit of a mixed bag. The directors, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, actually seem pleased they ended things on a high note, leaving us wanting more. They’ve even admitted they’re a little worried about being able to deliver something even better if they did make a sequel, which honestly, I respect!

Jesse Plemons has said he’s willing to return for a sequel, and he’s famous for delivering one of the movie’s most quoted lines: “How can that be profitable for Frito-Lay?” Lamorne Morris, an Emmy winner, also wants to come back, saying he really enjoyed making the film, and the story leaves the door open for another installment.

If the movie keeps performing well on HBO Max, where it’s currently a top 10 hit, there’s a better chance we’ll see a sequel to Game Night.
