The first game by SenseGames, titled AI Limit, immerses players in a sprawling post-apocalyptic landscape teeming with loot to gather and creatures to vanquish. For aficionados of the Soulslike genre, the mechanics will feel instantly familiar. However, it distinguishes itself from others through its unique approach to world-building and atmosphere creation.
In a recent conversation, Game Rant had the opportunity to chat with producer Yang Bin of AI Limit. He shared insights about the game’s storyline and how it aims to set itself apart from similar titles. Moreover, he hinted that side quests in AI Limit are intricately linked to the main plot.
AI Limit’s Narrative Explained
In many Soulslike games, the narrative usually takes a backseat, being subtly integrated into the game’s environment or serving as a secondary aspect, allowing for the development of top-notch, finely-tuned gameplay mechanics. However, unlike these games, AI Limit’s story is not background noise. From the get-go, the game’s futuristic world, rendered vividly through a cel-shaded art style, seeks to captivate players immediately. The game’s protagonist, an immortal being named Arrisa, differs significantly from typical human characters in her goals. As a result, the developers had to create a unique motivation for Arrisa, with Bin explaining that this was because she does not share the same desires as most human protagonists.
In many classic games, the narrative revolves around familial ties like finding children, parents, or partners. But since our main character isn’t human, it doesn’t have those kinds of motivations. To compensate, instead of constructing a traditional, straight-forward storyline, we’ve woven a tale about “establishing connections with humans and seeking out Branches” as a recurring theme.
AI Limit’s Characters Are Connected Through Sub-Plots
In the context of “AI Limit”, Arrisa will likely need to seek her drive from various aspects within the game’s setting, as Bin explained. This design involves players coming across Non-Player Characters (NPCs) throughout their journey, where they can choose either to aid these characters or disregard them entirely. Bin further detailed that many of these NPCs have side plots that are interwoven, contributing to the larger storyline and creating a complex tapestry of narratives.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that our game offers an immersive experience where you, as the player, will have the freedom to interact with various characters. By engaging with these characters, you might find yourself compelled to aid them in their struggles. But if you prefer, you can choose to bypass everyone and focus on battling formidable foes instead.
What makes our game unique is that we’ve meticulously crafted a web of interconnected narratives for these characters. You’ll discover that the side quests of each character aren’t standalone stories, but rather threads that are woven together intricately, enriching your gaming journey and adding depth to the overall narrative.
In their remarks, it’s clear that AI Limit aims to make its supplementary material as significant as the primary storyline, blending them seamlessly into one comprehensive narrative. The goal here is to entice players who typically bypass side content to participate in it, because not doing so might leave them with an incomplete understanding of the picture that AI Limit is trying to create. Balancing narrative and gameplay is a challenging endeavor, especially for a Soulslike game, and SenseGames’ dedication to maintaining quality in both aspects is admirable.
