The show finished airing nearly six years ago after an impressive fifteen seasons. But its message about the meaning of family – that it’s about connection, not just blood – still resonates, and stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki recently got back together for a new, unannounced project.
Jared Padalecki is joining Jensen Ackles in the newest season of The Boys, a show created by Eric Kripke, who also made Supernatural. The series will conclude after its fifth season. Interestingly, before Padalecki appears on The Boys, he and Ackles unexpectedly made a guest appearance together on The Rookie.
The Rookie Meets Supernatural in Unexpected Cameo
This week on ABC’s crime drama, “Survive the Streets,” fans of the show Supernatural got a surprise. While investigating what appeared to be a suicide, detective Nolan and his team discovered that the victim, a former LAPD officer named Rich, had taken his own life after becoming fixated on demons and groups he believed were hunting them – and responsible for several cold cases.
Throughout the series, former stars of Supernatural play themselves, appearing as guests on a documentary crew’s show. They share their personal stories about the supernatural and discuss their impressions of a character named Rich, whom they supposedly met at a fan convention called Monster Con within the show’s storyline.
The team making the film includes Alexi Hawley, the showrunner of The Rookie, and Abigail Tierney. They’re interviewing members of the LAPD about the case involving a suicide. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are participating in the interviews remotely, joining via Zoom.
Padalecki shared that he and the other actor worked together on the TV show Supernatural for 15 seasons.
Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles mentioned they played brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, who hunted and fought supernatural creatures. Ackles also talked about meeting a fan named Rich, describing him as unusually enthusiastic compared to others at Monster Con. They noted Rich seemed to know more about the show than they did, and playfully compared their characters to the popular Netflix series, Kpop Demon Hunters.
The Rookie releases new episodes on Mondays on ABC until its Season 8 finale on May 4.
