Henry Cavill’s new film is almost here, and it’s directed by Chad Stahelski, known for John Wick. Fans are anticipating incredible sword fights and impressive fantasy sequences featuring immortal warriors.
Considering that, it makes you wonder which other classic movies could really benefit from the fast-paced, action-packed style of John Wick if they were remade today. Several fantasy films, in particular, would be amazing with that kind of energy, and it would help audiences truly see how good they are.
The 13th Warrior Has a Lot of Potential
A Muslim ambassador unexpectedly joins a group of Vikings and begins to understand their way of life. As he adapts to their culture, he discovers an old danger that they must confront together, despite his lack of experience.
Despite not being a commercial success, the fantasy film is celebrated for its portrayal of a Muslim hero – even though the actor portraying him is Spanish. Similarly, The 13th Warrior offers a stylish depiction of Viking combat and also features a Muslim hero, this time authentically played by a Muslim actor. These combined elements give The 13th Warrior the potential to be a truly significant film.
Conan the Barbarian Needs a Stronger Direction
As a huge fantasy fan, I think Conan the Barbarian is right up there with the most legendary franchises ever created. It’s been around for decades, starting with the original books and expanding into comics, movies, and even a TV show. It’s also the role that really made Arnold Schwarzenegger a massive star. But surprisingly, considering how popular it is, there have only been three Conan movies and one TV series so far.
It makes perfect sense to revisit Conan the Barbarian, and updating the action with a style similar to John Wick could be fantastic. The film’s fantasy setting allows for creative and impressive fight choreography, and extended, unbroken fight scenes would be visually stunning. Focusing on these epic battles could revitalize the franchise and give it a clear direction it currently lacks.
The Beastmaster Deserves a Modern Retelling
The original Beastmaster movie, released in the early 1980s, featured many of the typical elements found in fantasy films of that era. However, the story has a lot of untapped potential and would be worth revisiting, as it centers on Dar, who can communicate with animals, and his fight against a wicked High Priest.
The really exciting part about this concept is Dar’s ability to connect with animals. If a Masters of the Universe movie can successfully feature Battle Cat, there’s no reason Dar – fighting alongside animals – couldn’t deliver equally impressive action sequences. With creative fight choreography and clever combat strategies that showcase Dar and his animal companions, this could become a truly memorable moment in fantasy films.
Solomon Kane is a Forgotten Dark Fantasy That Needs Love
Created by the same author as Conan the Barbarian, Solomon Kane tells the story of a sailor whose actions have condemned his soul. Now, he can’t escape his past and must confront evil forces to safeguard others. While sharing some similarities with other heroes, this tale is notably darker and more intense.
Solomon Kane is a fantastic dark fantasy story, and it would be even more exciting to see the hero’s skillful weapon use – especially with action choreography similar to what made the John Wick movies so popular. Seeing him fight with swords and pistols could actually be surprisingly impactful.
Warlock is More Than a Fantasy Horror Movie
It’s unusual to compare a horror movie to John Wick, but Warlock successfully combines thrills, action, and scares. The film follows a powerful warlock who, trapped in the late 1690s, is sent to the present day by the Devil to avoid facing justice. Once here, he seeks revenge on the witch-hunter who pursued him, leading to widespread mayhem.
Warlock has exciting potential, pitting a powerful magic user against the hero in battles that draw on ancient skills. This allows for fresh and imaginative fight sequences, showcasing surprising and captivating magical abilities that audiences are likely to enjoy.
