Absolute Robin Gets Shocking DC Twist That Changes Batman Sidekick

DC has been hinting at the release of Absolute Robin for months, both through upcoming cover art and by bringing Dick Grayson into the Absolute Universe. However, Absolute Batman #19 revealed a surprising development with the new Robin that alters the traditional relationship between Batman and his sidekick.

Absolute Batman #19, from writer Scott Snyder and artist Nick Dragotta, packs a lot into one issue. It not only debuts Absolute Robin and a new version of Scarecrow called Absolute Universe Scarecrow, but also kicks off a new story arc where Batman is falsely accused of murder.

This final story development leads directly to the introduction of Absolute Robin. As expected, considering Dick Grayson previously expressed dislike for Batman, he appears as a villain. But he isn’t working alone.

Absolute Joker has a team of Robins

During a press conference about Batman being a murder suspect, General Slade Wilson unexpectedly took control. He revealed he’d been running a secret, well-funded team – backed by philanthropist Jack Grimm V – to safeguard Gotham City. For comic book fans, Grimm and Wilson are actually the Joker and Deathstroke from the Absolute Universe. Wilson announced this operation, dubbed the “Robin Program,” will begin with capturing Batman.

The Robin Program features alternate versions of every Robin from across the DC Universe – including Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Duke Thomas. This creates a challenging situation for Batman, who now has to contend with five skilled heroes instead of just one, and it’s complicated further by the fact that Deathstroke is leading them.

Absolute Batman #19 is now available at comics shops everywhere.
