In the expansive world of Where Winds Meet, you can travel quickly using fast travel points called Boundary Stones or by riding a horse. However, the most exciting way to get around is by flying! But before you can soar through the skies, you’ll need to meet certain requirements. This guide will walk you through everything you need to unlock flight as soon as possible.
How to Fly in Where Winds Meet
Flight can be done by using any one of the four flying-related Lightness Skills, namely:
- Meteor Flight
- Thousand-Mile Flight
- Fan Glider
- Wind Rider
These options are all very similar, with the main difference being their visual effects. Players will probably unlock “Meteor Flight” first by completing the “Afterglow” side quest in Qinghe.
You’ll unlock the Thousand-Mile Flight after logging in four times as you progress through the Warrior’s Journey. The Fan Glider and Wind Rider become available as you increase your Qinghe Exploration rank.
Afterglow Side Quest Guide
To begin this quest, open your Journal and go to the Jianghu Legacy tab. It’s the fifth quest listed, and you don’t need to complete any other ‘Where Winds Meet’ side quests beforehand. The quest starts when you find a martial master disguised as a fisherman near Moonveil Mountain and speak with them.
After beginning the quest in your journal, head to the location shown on the map and find the fisherman by the pond. Talk to him—he’ll let you try out Meteor Flight. Once you’ve finished flying, you’ll land on the beach close to Blissful Retreat, and you’ll find the fisherman waiting for you there.
To get Meteor Flight, you first need to complete the fisherman’s challenge. He’ll ask you to jump across floating wine jars to reach his boat. The game prevents you from jumping too far, so focus on getting to the boat without worrying about perfect jumps. Once you’re on the boat, talk to the fisherman again, and then grab the book and spear that are close by.
We have one more hurdle to clear before you can start using Meteor Flight. There’s a significant limitation currently preventing immediate access.
To use Meteor Flight or other flight skills, simply hold the Jump button.
How to Get The Afterglow Pendant in Where Winds Meet
If you attempt to use Meteor Flight after completing the Afterglow quest, the game will freeze to black and you’ll be sent back to the beach where you first met the fisherman. He’ll explain that flying is currently prohibited in Qinghe and that you need to obtain an Afterglow Pendant from Where Winds Meet before you can use Meteor Flight – or any other flying ability.
You’ll receive an Afterglow Pendant once you reach Exploration Rank 4 in Qinghe. To see how close you are, open your map and click the level indicator located below the region name in the bottom-left corner. Once you reach Rank 4, the Afterglow Pendant will be available, along with other rewards like materials and Echo Jades, which you can use for the gacha banner and at various shops.
You can increase your Qinghe Exploration level simply by exploring the Qinghe region. Here are some ways to level up quickly:
- Complete side quests
- Complete Encounters
- Collect Oddities for Qi Sheng
- Discover new Boundary Stones
Here’s the catch: you can’t fly in areas outside of Qinghe until you’ve fully explored them – you need to reach exploration level 4 in those new regions first. And when you move on to Kaifeng and beyond, you’ll have to re-explore the map. The good news is that any movement-enhancing skills you’ve learned, like Lightness, will remain unlocked.
