New Hannibal Reunion Movie Promises To Be Equally Violent As The Show In Rating Update

I just heard the movie got its rating from the MPA, and apparently, it’s going to have about the same level of violence as the show Hannibal – so, be prepared! It’s really exciting because Bryan Fuller, who created Hannibal, is directing, and Mads Mikkelsen is reprising his role as Lecter. The story is wild: it’s about a little girl who hires her hitman neighbor to deal with the monster she thinks is living under her bed.

Before its release in theaters on December 12th, the Motion Picture Association (MPA) has given Dust Bunny an R rating. The film received this rating due to “some violence,” which is similar to the level of violence seen in the movie Hannibal.

Despite being broadcast on NBC, Hannibal was known for its daring and unconventional content. The show relied more on disturbing and dreamlike visuals than explicit violence, though when violence did occur, it was often graphic.

Though Hannibal was cancelled after three successful seasons, fans are still hoping for a fourth. However, a recent reunion between the show’s creator and a key actor is the next best thing for now. Their new project, Dust Bunny, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September and received very positive feedback, with viewers praising its strong acting and creative storytelling.

The film has received very positive reviews, earning a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 28 reviews. While this score may change as more reviews come in, early reactions suggest a strong new partnership between Fuller and Mikkelsen, alongside stars Sigourney Weaver, David Dastmalchian, Sophie Sloan, and Nóra Trókan.

In a review for ScreenRant, Gregory Nussen (writing as Dust Bunny) gave the film a score of 4 out of 10. He felt the movie’s creative visuals weren’t backed up by a strong enough story.

Viewers familiar with Bryan Fuller’s shows like Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, and Star Trek: Discovery will notice his signature dramatic style. However, Dust Bunny doesn’t feature the same elaborate world-building as those series, and when it tries to create its own, it relies too heavily on ideas from other stories.

Okay, so I just heard that Dust Bunny is officially getting an R rating, and I’m a little worried about how that might affect ticket sales. An R rating means a lot of younger viewers won’t be able to see it, which is a bummer. But honestly, knowing Bryan Fuller’s previous shows, I think an R rating could actually be good. His fans probably expect something a bit more mature and edgy, and this might be exactly what we want!

This film is director Fuller’s first feature-length movie, and if audiences respond as well as critics have, it probably won’t be his last. He was originally planning to make his directorial debut with an adaptation of Stephen King’s Christine, but it’s currently unknown if that project is still happening. As of now, the creator of Hannibal doesn’t have any other films in development.

There are still a lot of unknowns surrounding the film Dust Bunny, but a recent decision from the MPA suggests viewers can anticipate both visually creative scenes, a strong performance by Mikkelsen, and moments of the intense action Samuel Fuller was known for.
