At the recent Nintendo Direct event, they unveiled a fresh addition to the Mario Tennis franchise – Mario Tennis Fever – which will be available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 starting February 12, 2026.
The primary innovation in Mario Tennis Fever lies in its title itself – FeVER tennis rackets. These extraordinary rackets possess a FeVER meter which increases as you play, enabling you to execute a FeVER shot, a powerful move that can transform the court into an inferno or an icy wonderland. Additionally, there’s the Mini Mushroom racket, which when used, scatters mushrooms on your opponent’s side of the court, reducing them in size. Nintendo has announced that there are a total of 30 FeVER rackets, each equipped with its unique ability.
In Mario Tennis Fever, there will be a total of 38 playable characters, which is the highest number for this series, as stated by Nintendo. Many familiar faces like Yoshi and Donkey Kong are present. However, it appears that no new characters were introduced in the game’s initial trailer.
In the upcoming game, Mario Tennis Fever, there’s going to be a unique mode called Adventure, where all characters are transformed into babies. This transformation requires them to learn tennis anew, and they will do so by navigating through an overworld, participating in various minigames, and facing off against bosses. Nintendo has also revealed additional modes such as Tournament, Trial Towers, Mix It Up, Online Room, and Online Ranked.
The final installment in the sports game series, known as Mario Tennis Aces, came out for Switch consoles in 2018.
