Police say a teenager in Florida admitted to driving in circles on a golf course, causing over $160,000 in damage simply because they were bored.
Volusia County deputies responded to the New Smyrna Beach Golf Club on Sunday morning after employees found significant tire tracks and damaged ground on the golf course.
The golf course sustained significant damage, requiring emergency repairs to begin right away. Initial assessments suggest the restoration will cost approximately $160,000.
Teen admitted to deputies there was “nothing else to do”
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood stated that the teenager admitted to driving onto the golf course around 2:30 AM and doing donuts with the truck on the greens.
According to ClickOrlando, the individual admitted to the damage, explaining that he and others were simply bored and didn’t know what else to do at that late hour. He said, ‘There wasn’t anything else to do at 2:30 in the morning.’
On November 10th, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 17-year-old Keller Adkins. He’s been charged with causing over $161,000 in damage to the Venetian Bay golf course in New Smyrna Beach and faces felony criminal mischief charges.
Adkins has been charged with a serious crime – damaging property. Authorities have also impounded the truck involved as evidence.
This follows a similar act of vandalism in Australia, where a teenager was accused of gluing googly eyes onto a $136,000 sculpture nicknamed “Blue Blob.”
