Two popular actors from the Matt Smith era of Doctor Who are teaming up again. During Steven Moffat’s time as showrunner, Karen Gillan played Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill played Rory Williams alongside Smith’s Eleventh Doctor. Amy and Rory quickly became beloved by fans as a married couple who traveled with the Doctor, but their time on the show ended dramatically in the season 7 episode “The Angels Take Manhattan.”
After 13 years, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill—who played companions to the Doctor—are returning to discuss their experiences on Doctor Who in a new podcast called The Pondcast. Darvill told RadioTimes.com that the podcast will be a chance for them to fondly remember and celebrate their time on the show.
Darvill said they haven’t finished watching the show yet, so they’re planning a rewatch with a discussion. They’ve already recorded some episodes, and it’s been a lot of fun. It’s mostly just him and Karen chatting and remembering things, so he doesn’t expect to share many new insights, but enjoys the trip down memory lane.
Both Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan will be sharing memories of their time on the show. They also revealed that Steven Moffat made a guest appearance on one of the podcast episodes, which could mean other familiar faces and creators from that period might join them later on.
Both Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill have expressed interest in returning to Doctor Who. Gillan has said she’d only come back if Matt Smith and Darvill also joined her, according to RadioTimes.com. Darvill also said he’d be happy to reprise his role, though he noted that all three actors had different feelings when they finished filming the show originally.

We had such a great time working on that project – we all agreed we didn’t want to risk ruining it by returning. While it’s sometimes dangerous to dwell on the past, looking back, it was a really important and incredibly fun experience, probably the most fun I’ve had on any job. I don’t think it would be wise to completely dismiss the idea of revisiting it sometime.
Podcasts where hosts rewatch and discuss TV shows have become very popular. For example, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kingsley, stars of The Office, created the Office Ladies podcast. Similarly, Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale from Glee host And That’s What You REALLY Missed. Most recently, Charisma Carpenter of Buffy the Vampire Slayer launched The Bitch is Back, where she’s revisiting every episode of Buffy as if seeing them for the first time.
Darvill shared with RadioTimes that he hopes the show will continue indefinitely, and he’s excited about the possibility of returning to it even when he’s older. Despite recent uncertainty about its future, the BBC has confirmed that Doctor Who will continue, even without Disney’s participation. Projects involving former cast members like Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill demonstrate the show’s enduring and beloved legacy.
Pondcast does not yet have a fixed release date.
