Catherine Zeta-Jones Wants Danny DeVito To Play Cousin Itt In Wednesday Season 3

Jenna Ortega, the lead actress in the popular Netflix show Wednesday, recently shared who she’d love to see play a famous member of the Addams Family who hasn’t been featured on the series yet. Wednesday follows Ortega as she plays Wednesday Addams while attending Nevermore Academy, and has received an average rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes after two seasons.

Filming for season 3 of Wednesday is anticipated to start in early 2026, and the new season is expected to be released in 2027 on the streaming platform.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia Addams in Wednesday, recently told Variety who she’d like to see guest star after Lady Gaga. Without missing a beat, she suggested Danny DeVito, explaining that her husband, Michael Douglas, and DeVito were roommates years ago, so she’s already friendly with him.

Catherine Zeta-Jones recently wondered why Danny DeVito wasn’t in the show Wednesday. She was thinking about it while celebrating her and Michael Douglas’ birthdays with DeVito in New York in September.

When asked by Variety which Wednesday character Danny DeVito should play, Jenna Ortega paused before suggesting Cousin Itt – a character who hasn’t appeared in the show yet. She then joked that DeVito would be upset with her, as the role would require him to cover his entire face in hair.

However, Zeta-Jones still thinks it would be “so cool” to see DeVito as Cousin Itt.

I’m honestly surprised Danny DeVito hasn’t been cast in the show yet. My husband actually used to room with him, and I recently saw Danny in New York in September. It just seems like he’d be perfect for Wednesday!

Oh, Cousin Itt is going to be furious with me! He basically said, ‘So you’re going to have me play a role where my whole face is covered in hair? Thanks for the idea, Catherine. Really, thanks a lot.’

The actors in Wednesday have been fantastic. In addition to Jenna Ortega and Catherine Zeta-Jones, the show features Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Steve Buscemi, Isaac Ordonez, Evie Templeton, Luis Guzmán, Fred Armisen, Joanna Lumley, Joonas Suotamo, and Victor Dorobantu.

Cousin Itt, a character completely covered in hair, was introduced in the 1964 television series The Addams Family. Both Felix Silla and Roger Arroyo originally portrayed the character in the show’s first episode.

John Franklin originally played Uncle Fester in The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. Later, Phil Fondacaro took on the role in Addams Family Reunion, and David Mylrea played him in the television series The New Addams Family.

Cousin Itt’s voice was usually done by voice actors separate from the person who physically played the character.

Throughout different animated versions of The Addams Family, John Stephenson, Pat Fraley, and Snoop Dogg have all provided the voice for Cousin Itt.

Danny DeVito is a celebrated actor known for his roles in popular movies like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Terms of Endearment, Twins, and Matilda. He’s also well-known for his television work on shows like Taxi and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Although we don’t yet know who will join the cast of Wednesday season 3, or if Cousin Itt will appear, many fans would be excited to see Danny DeVito take on the role – and it would definitely generate a lot of buzz.

The problem with suggesting DeVito for the role is that audiences would likely only see him as DeVito, distracting from the character. While Zeta-Jones’ idea seems great, it might not translate well to the screen.

It remains to be seen if Cousin Itt will appear in Wednesday, but fans would undoubtedly be thrilled to see him, regardless of who plays the role.
