John Krasinski’s 13 Hours: From Box Office Failure To Global Streaming Success

John Krasinski’s action movie, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, released nine years ago before his role in Jack Ryan, is now gaining popularity on streaming services worldwide. The film marked a shift for Krasinski, known for his comedy work on The Office, as he played a former Navy SEAL during the attacks on a diplomatic compound in Benghazi. The movie is based on a true story.

Although it didn’t initially succeed in cinemas, Michael Bay’s film 13 Hours is now gaining popularity on streaming services. It’s currently a top 10 hit on Paramount+ in several countries, including Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Argentina.

The only countries where 13 Hours appears in the top 10 most popular movies are those located in Latin America.

Unlike some other titles, 13 Hours isn’t currently among the top 10 most-watched shows on Paramount+ in the US. However, it was briefly at number 7 on November 5th and 6th, right after the election – whether that’s a coincidence or not is interesting.

Despite its initial release, 13 Hours is actually doing very well on streaming. It’s currently the most popular movie on Tubi, a free streaming service with over 100 million users that’s been growing rapidly.

John Krasinski was primarily known for comedy thanks to his role in The Office, but starring in 13 Hours dramatically changed his career, opening doors he hadn’t imagined.

Although the movie only earned $69.4 million in theaters and received a 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it unexpectedly launched the actor’s career as an action hero, opening up new opportunities in the industry.

John Krasinski directed, co-wrote, and starred in both A Quiet Place films. He also appeared as a version of Reed Richards from another universe in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The actor made his comeback to television in the action-packed series Jack Ryan, which aired for four seasons on Prime Video.

Following portrayals of Jack Ryan by actors like Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine in five films, Prime Video gave the character a fresh start with John Krasinski in the lead role. The resulting TV series was well-received by critics, and Krasinski was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance.

Although the Prime Video series finished in 2023, John Krasinski’s take on Jack Ryan will continue with a movie currently being finalized. We don’t yet know when it will be released.

If you’re excited for the next Jack Ryan film, you can revisit 13 Hours on Paramount+ and Tubi. The movie is currently popular in many countries, showing how eager fans are to see John Krasinski back in the action genre that really launched his career.
