Dave Bautista Wants to Make a Sequel to Action Comedy ‘Stuber’

Throughout his acting career, which began after a successful run in wrestling, Dave Bautista has appeared in numerous films. He’s well-known for his role as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he’s also starred in movies like Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, Glass Onion, In the Lost Lands, and a variety of action projects. Bautista particularly feels that Stuber is one of his most overlooked films and he’s eager to revisit the role in a sequel.

Released in 2019, this action comedy—directed by Michael Dowse, who also directed Bautista’s recent film, Trap House—features Kumail Nanjiani as an Uber driver who unwittingly picks up Bautista’s character, a tough cop, while trailing a murderer. While the movie did reasonably well at the box office and received a positive audience score of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics were much less impressed, giving it a “rotten” score of 43%.

You know, as a big movie fan, I was chatting with Dave Bautista, and he feels Stuber really got a bit of a raw deal. He was telling me…

Let me tell you, I truly believe Stuber is one of the most underrated movies I’ve ever been a part of. I’m incredibly proud of it – of what director Mike Dowse accomplished, and of the work I did with Kumail Nanjiani. Honestly, I’m constantly hoping we get a chance to make a sequel. I’d jump at the opportunity to work with Mike and Kumail again on set.

Dave Bautista Reteams with His ‘Stuber’ Director for ‘Trap House’

Dave Bautista, like many actors, often finds himself collaborating with the same people on different films. He’s worked with Karen Gillan, his co-star from Guardians of the Galaxy, on both Stuber and an upcoming Highlander movie, which also stars Henry Cavill. Now, he’s teaming up again with Michael Dowse, the director of Stuber, for his new film, Trap House.

Dave Bautista stars in his latest film as a DEA agent who, along with his partner, discovers their own children are incredibly daring thieves, leading to a tense chase. The movie, titled Trap House, also features Jack Champion (known from Avatar: Fire and Ash), Sophia Lillis (It), Kate del Castillo (The Book of Life), Tony Dalton (The Last of Us), Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Inde Navarrette (Superman & Lois), Zaire Adams (Senior Year), and Blu del Barrio (Star Trek: Discovery), with supporting roles from Bautista and Bobby Cannavale.

The movie Trap House comes out on November 14th, and Dave Bautista hopes it’s just the beginning for these characters. He’s said he always pictured it as the start of a film series. Whether that happens depends on how well the movie does in theaters. With early reviews expected this week, we’ll soon see if audiences and critics like it enough to warrant a sequel.
