We May Have Already Seen Godzilla Minus Zero’s Villain Outside Of The Movies

In 2023, director Takashi Yamazaki delivered a critically acclaimed Godzilla Minus One, successfully competing with the popular Monsterverse films. Now, like the Monsterverse which features a wide range of monsters, Toho’s Godzilla franchise is planning to expand its universe with more creatures, starting in late 2026.

The new Godzilla movie, Godzilla Minus One, will feature the iconic monster battling another creature. Although the story is still under wraps, fans are already guessing which classic monster from Godzilla’s past will appear, and whether Godzilla will be protecting or attacking Japan this time around.

Although we haven’t seen any hints about other characters in the new Godzilla movie, Godzilla Minus One, director Yamazaki may have already given something away in one of his other projects. He might have subtly revealed which classic monster will also appear in the film.

Takashi Yamazaki’s Godzilla Has Battled Mechagodzilla And King Ghidorah In Japanese Simulator Rides

As a huge monster movie fan, I was thrilled to hear about Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle! It opened in May 2021 at Seibuen Amusement Park just outside Tokyo, and it’s exactly what it sounds like – a five-minute simulator ride that throws you right into a battle between Godzilla and King Ghidorah. The cool part is that Takashi Yamazaki, a really talented director, wrote and directed the whole story for the ride, so it feels like a mini-movie!

Yamazaki created the monsters featured in the ride, and they closely resemble the massive Godzilla from Godzilla Minus One. He continued working on Godzilla projects by writing, directing, and handling the visual effects for a second Godzilla attraction at Seibuen Amusement Park, which opened in August 2025.

Like the first ride, this new experience, called Godzilla The Ride: Great Clash, puts you right in the middle of a fight – this time between Godzilla and a newly designed Mechagodzilla. Yamazaki designed the creatures again, so now we’ve seen his original ideas for Godzilla and two of his most famous enemies.

Considering the director Yamazaki often features these characters, and knowing he’s building a specific Godzilla storyline, fans expect to see either King Ghidorah or Mechagodzilla in Godzilla Minus Zero. However, given that Godzilla Minus One is set in a realistic, post-World War II Japan, a Japanese-built Mechagodzilla seems improbable because it would require a huge leap in technology for that time period.

Both King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla could appear in the new film, fitting with the long-standing tradition of Toho films featuring alien threats. If the director chooses to honor that tradition, Godzilla Minus One might bring back one of Godzilla’s most iconic enemies to wreak havoc on Japan, ironically turning a former foe into an unlikely protector.
