Netflix has another big success on its hands with Guillermo del Toro‘s latest monster movie. The acclaimed director has reimagined a well-known story from classic literature, bringing it to a new audience.
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein premiered on Netflix on November 7, 2025, and quickly became a hit with viewers. The film, featuring Oscar Isaac as Baron Victor Frankenstein, has already reached the #1 spot on Netflix in the U.S.
After Frankenstein, KPop Demon Hunters is currently the second most popular title on Netflix this year. The Hangover comes in at number three, followed by A House of Dynamite starring Rebecca Ferguson at number four – another Netflix original. Rounding out the top six are Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas at number five and Bride Wars at number six.
I’m so thrilled with how well the Frankenstein movie is being received! It’s got an incredible 85% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but even better, audiences are loving it with a 95% score! Plus, it had a short run in theaters last October, which was a nice treat.
In the new film Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi plays the Creature, and the story focuses on the scientist’s disturbing process of bringing him to life. Mia Goth stars as Lady Elizabeth Harlander, and Felix Kammerer plays William Frankenstein, the Baron’s brother.
ScreenRant’s review of the Frankenstein movie highlighted Del Toro’s film as a technical marvel, praising its creative camerawork and beautiful set design. The review also noted that Netflix’s investment clearly paid off, allowing the director to create large-scale scenes that felt true to the spirit of Mary Shelley’s original story.
