„Dark Souls meets Jurassic Park” This epic sword-wielding dinosaur action RPG has a free demo on Steam right now

A playable demo for the game Dinoblade is now available on Steam. The game originated from a popular online animation featuring a Spinosaurus wielding a large sword. The creator of that animation decided to develop the idea into a full-fledged action RPG set in a prehistoric world with dinosaurs, and that’s how Dinoblade came to be. It was first shown to the public earlier this year in May, and now everyone can give it a try.

The person who animates the popular online series Dinoblade has a strong background in the gaming industry. While the game is being developed by Team Spino LLC, the animator, Jean Nguyen, also works as a Senior Gameplay Animator at Sucker Punch Studios – the creators of games like Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei, and the inFamous series. Nguyen explained that the original, viral video clip wasn’t intended to be a game announcement. “I just made it to improve my portfolio,” Nguyen said, “but it became so popular that people kept asking for a full game, and that’s how Dinoblade came to be.”

Dinoblade stands out because it portrays dinosaurs realistically. The game’s fantastical aspects come from its over-the-top weapons, action, and sword fights. While a Spinosaurus doing a roll might not be scientifically accurate, the fluid animations make it look surprisingly natural. Frankly, we need more good dinosaur video games, and Team Spino has delivered with this one.

I recently tried the demo for about thirty minutes, and I really enjoyed it! The controls are easy to pick up, and even though it’s still early days, Dinoblade looks like a really promising action RPG. The gameplay was exciting, and I often paused just to appreciate the beautiful environments, despite the somewhat subdued colors. It definitely left me wanting to play more, and it sounds like there’s a lot more content to come. The Steam page hints at a huge, world-changing event, and I’m eager to find out what happened.
