BioShock 4 Isn’t Dead And Is Still Coming, Take-Two Promises

The next BioShock game has been in the works for almost ten years, but Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns 2K Games, has stated they don’t plan to cancel it. In a recent interview, CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the long development process and assured fans that BioShock will eventually come out.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confidently told IGN that a new game is definitely on the way. He explained that creating high-quality, standout AAA games is increasingly difficult due to longer development times. Zelnick emphasized that Take-Two prioritizes making the best entertainment, not simply the most entertainment, and while they haven’t always succeeded, those failures have been rare. The company’s goal is to consistently release truly exceptional games.

Strauss Zelnick’s statements follow a Bloomberg report that BioShock 4 is being reworked to make it even better. During a recent earnings call, Take-Two president Karl Slatoff also discussed BioShock and changes happening at Cloud Imperium Games after the studio had layoffs. As a result of these changes, Kelley Gilmore stepped down as studio head, and Rod Fergusson, formerly of Diablo, has taken over the role.

Slatoff announced some internal restructuring at the company (according to Seeking Alpha). They’re reorganizing things, but are confident the game is progressing well and will ultimately surpass player expectations. He also stated that the next BioShock game aims to significantly improve upon previous installments, which is their goal for all their franchises.

During Take-Two’s recent earnings report, they announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will now be released in November 2026. They also revealed that while Borderlands 4 was the third best-selling game this year, it didn’t sell as well as they had hoped.
