Spider-Man 4’s Latest Casting Rumor Continues To Undo No Way Home’s Ending

A recent casting rumor for the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day could potentially change the impact of the ending from Spider-Man: No Way Home. No Way Home remains the most successful solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s still very popular with fans nearly four years later. But as the story continues, some fans are concerned that the new casting might lessen the significance of the previous film’s conclusion.

In November 2025, rumor-monger Daniel Richtman reported that Tony Revolori will likely return as Eugene “Flash” Thompson in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. This would be Revolori’s fourth time playing the character in Marvel Cinematic Universe films, having previously appeared as Peter Parker’s high school rival in the first three Spider-Man movies.

Although we don’t yet know the details of Flash Thompson’s story in Brand New Day, his return represents another significant connection to Peter Parker’s past, especially after the events of No Way Home. Many viewers assumed Doctor Strange’s memory-wiping spell would cause Peter to lose all ties to his previous life. However, Flash’s reappearance – alongside MJ (played by Zendaya) and Ned Leeds (played by Jacob Batalon) – marks the third high school classmate brought back into the fold.

Tom Holland returns as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth solo film featuring the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). As part of the MCU’s Phase 6, the movie will see Peter Parker reconnect with his beginnings as a neighborhood hero, redefining himself while battling frightening new foes in New York City. The film also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Michael Mando, Mark Ruffalo, and Jon Bernthal, and is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.

Will No Way Home’s Ending Undermine Spider-Man 4?

The ending of No Way Home suggested Peter Parker was starting a new, independent life, possibly distancing himself from friends and family to keep them safe. However, Flash is now the third character with a connection to Peter to appear in this upcoming movie, joining Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Although Peter, MJ, and Ned likely won’t have major roles, Marvel and Sony appear determined to reunite these characters through the actors involved. If Peter tries to repair his relationships with them, it would mirror the dynamic fans remember from the first Spider-Man trilogy.

As a big film fan, I think having those familiar characters pop up even in smaller roles probably won’t derail the story, as long as Peter Parker gets room to grow with some fresh faces around him. I’m really excited about the potential of bringing back villains like Scorpion, and even more so about seeing some new bad guys challenge him – it’ll be great even with so much we already know and love.
