Be warned, this article contains spoilers for episode 7 of Tulsa King season 3. After seven episodes, it’s becoming apparent that Tulsa King has created a challenge for itself with the introduction of Samuel L. Jackson’s character. While season 3 has generally received good reviews, the show has started to lose momentum recently. Episode 7 continued a pattern of the cast being stretched too thin and the storyline becoming overly complex.
There’s trouble for Sylvester Stallone’s series, Tulsa King. As the conflict between Dwight and Jeremiah Dunmire reaches a climax and the season nears its end, the show hasn’t quite delivered on all its initial goals. This is especially unfortunate since Samuel L. Jackson is still scheduled to appear as a guest star in season 3.
There Are Only 3 Episodes Left In Tulsa King Season 3 & A Lot Of Ongoing Stories
Brian Douglas / Paramount+
With only three episodes left in the ten-episode season of Tulsa King, there’s just over two hours of story remaining. While that isn’t a lot of time, the show still needs to wrap up many important storylines before the season finale.
Okay, let’s break down where we are with Tulsa King heading into the final stretch. It’s a lot! Dwight’s got his hands full – he’s battling Jeremiah Dunmire while simultaneously trying to get his distillery off the ground. On top of that, he’s still working with Agent Musso, hoping to bring down Dexter Deacon. It’s not just Dwight dealing with conflict, though. We’re seeing a real power struggle develop between Jeremiah and Cole, and things are getting tense. And in a slightly softer storyline, Cole and Spencer are exploring a new romantic connection. It’s a messy web, but that’s what makes it interesting!

Mitch and Cleo are falling in love again, while Tyson is working to become financially independent from the group. Bodhi is determined to avenge Jimmy the Creek’s murder by targeting Bill Bevilaqua’s associates. Bill himself is in Musso’s custody and suspects Dwight is betraying him. Meanwhile, Cal Thresher and Margaret are campaigning for governor and attempting to influence the Attorney General, and Quiet Ray is trying to take over Dwight’s turf.
The show needs to wrap up these storylines in the next two episodes. While some things might carry over to a potential fourth season of Tulsa King, they can’t leave viewers with an unfinished story after building up so much conflict. Season 3 introduced too many plots at once, and now it’s running out of time to give them all proper resolutions.
Tulsa King Season 3 Still Has To Introduce Samuel L. Jackson & NOLA King
With so many plotlines already happening in Tulsa King season 3, the show is adding another complex character: Samuel L. Jackson will play Russell Lee Washington Jr., a powerful crime boss who clashes with Dwight. Jackson is also slated to star in a Tulsa King spinoff called NOLA King, and his role in season 3 is intended to introduce the new show. However, this creates a problem: with only three episodes left, there simply isn’t enough time to properly develop Jackson’s character, establish a compelling rivalry with Dwight, and wrap things up in a way that allows Washington to return to New Orleans for NOLA King. It’s a lot to fit into the remaining episodes.
As a big fan of Tulsa King, I’m honestly worried about bringing in Washington this late in the season. It feels like they’re cramming things in, and I fear it’s going to mean either his character won’t get the development he deserves, or one of the storylines we’ve been following will get shortchanged right when things are reaching a peak. Honestly, introducing a whole new character and hinting at a spin-off in episode eight of a ten-episode season just feels like bad timing.
It would have been better if Samuel L. Jackson’s character had been introduced on Tulsa King several weeks earlier. This would have allowed his storyline to develop naturally, and given viewers a chance to become invested in his character and the potential for a NOLA King spin-off. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and now the show is facing a significant challenge as it moves into its third season.
