An Unmissable Immersive Horror Experience Is Set to Open Next Year

As a huge horror fan, I’m so excited about the news that the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles is putting together a major exhibition dedicated to the genre! It’s not opening until 2026, but it sounds like it’s going to be a really big deal – they’ve even given it its own dedicated space. If you’re planning a trip to L.A. and love scary movies, I’d definitely recommend making time to check it out. I’m planning to spend a whole afternoon there, just soaking it all in!

According to Fangoria, a new exhibit called “The Horror Show” will open on September 20, 2026, and run through July 25, 2027. It’s being called a daring and immersive experience based on the popular horror genre. While details are still limited, a press release promises visitors will be able to step inside and experience their favorite horror films.

“The Horror Show” blends museum exhibits with a thrilling, spooky experience. The exhibit begins with a sound installation and then leads visitors through ‘The Hallway,’ a classic horror movie setup, and into six different themed galleries: Gothic, Psychological, Science, Slasher, Religion, and Ghosts. Each gallery is carefully designed to immerse visitors in famous horror environments and let them come face-to-face with beloved monsters and objects.

Amy Homma, Director and President of the Academy Museum, explained that ‘The Horror Show’ acknowledges horror films as powerfully moving and inventive, praising their unique creativity and the artists behind them. She’s thrilled visitors will be able to discover and enjoy movies that have impacted filmmaking for generations. Jessica Niebel, the exhibit’s curator, also shared her enthusiasm.

Horror movies have always captivated audiences, offering a way to explore our fears and reflect on society. These stories often provide a sense of release and have brought horror fans together worldwide. I’m excited for everyone – both longtime fans and those new to the genre – to experience ‘The Horror Show.’

People are naturally curious about which horror films will be celebrated at “The Horror Show.” The museum will showcase a fantastic collection of classic horror movies, building on its existing displays like the shark from Jaws, an Oscar from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and even the original typewriter Joseph Stefano used to write Psycho. But this new exhibit won’t just be about looking at props – it’s designed to be an interactive experience, letting fans step inside and engage with the movies they love.

The immersive experience will feature classic and contemporary horror films, including Alien (1979), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Black Swan (2010), Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), Get Out (2017), Halloween (1978), Ju-On (1998), Midsommar (2019), Misery (1990), Poltergeist (1982), Ringu (1998), The Blair Witch Project (1999), The Exorcist (1973), The Shining (1980), The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), among others. Organizers promise ‘The Horror Show’ will be an event horror fans won’t want to miss.
