A historic first: A cryptocurrency company has chosen an athlete for a sponsorship deal using innovative blockchain technology to make the selection process.

The Polkadot community recently approved a sponsorship proposal in a press release to CryptoPotato. This means they will support IndyCar racing driver Conor Daly as their brand ambassador for the upcoming Indianapolis 500 race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Daly as Polkadot’s Indy 500 Ambassador

On May 26, the Indy 500 race is scheduled to take place, which kicks off a one-year partnership between Polkadot and Daly. This collaboration goes beyond racing tracks as Polkadot plans interactive community events and digital initiatives to connect with Daly’s fans and introduce them to the cross-chain network.

With a 95.8% approval, Daly was chosen as Polkadot’s brand ambassador via a public vote, marking a departure from conventional sponsorship practices where deals are struck in private. Polkadot emphasized that this open arrangement, facilitated through blockchain technology, sets a precedent for transparent and community-driven sponsorships.

“Chris Wade, a Polkadot advocate, expressed that this groundbreaking sponsorship demonstrates blockchain technology’s ability to turn exclusive processes into open and accessible ones through its transformative power. This is a reflection of Polkadot’s visionary community, reliable infrastructure, and advanced governance structure. It serves as a roadmap for future partnerships.”

Polkadot Sees High Activity

Daly, a well-known figure in US motor racing, holds the distinction of being one of only 29 drivers who competed in both the Daytona 500 and Indy 500 races organized by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing in the same year. Beyond his impressive racing achievements, Daly is also a co-host of the popular motorsports podcast, Speed Street.

Commenting on the alliance with Polkadot, Daly said:

“It’s a great privilege for me to be chosen as Polkadot’s community ambassador by thousands of individuals, not through corporate marketing, but through their votes. This demonstrates the potential of a more democratic and open internet where people have the power. We’re making history here by returning control to the people.”

Polkadot recently made an announcement, marking a new milestone for the blockchain as it experiences an unprecedented surge. Over half a million (500,000+) addresses are now in use within the Polkadot system, indicating significant engagement and lively network activity.
