Users of Uber can look forward to booking helicopter trips via their app shortly, as a result of an extended collaboration between Uber and Joby Aviation’s latest transportation venture, Blade Air Mobility.
Beginning as early as 2026, passengers will be able to book Joby-owned helicopters for travel to and from local airports through the Uber app. This new option will show up as an exclusive choice among standard ride selections, offering a premium transportation experience.
Since 2019, Uber has collaborated with Joby Aviation, following the sale of Uber’s Elevate division to the company specializing in electric aircraft development. Joby aims to receive FAA certification for its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft by 2025, with a commercial debut planned for 2026. Upon receiving certification, Joby’s eVTOL aircraft will be seamlessly incorporated into Uber’s platform.
Excitedly speaking, following the announcement by Joby about their $125 million takeover of Blade – a renowned helicopter and air transportation company – I’m thrilled to know they’re now laying the groundwork for Uber helicopters!

Uber’s familiarity with helicopters
Previously, Uber users could book helicopter rides within the application, a service that was available before 2020. In New York specifically, Uber used to provide such flights, though these ceased once they sold their helicopter division to Joby in 2020.
In Dubai, Uber had provided an exclusive service called UberChopper, allowing customers to book sightseeing tours lasting either 12, 15, or 25 minutes. However, similar to the New York flights, this service for Dubai is no longer operational as of 2025.
This agreement emphasizes Uber’s plan for growth in air transportation. Initially, they are focusing on helicopter rides, with ambitions to transition to electric air taxis once regulatory bodies approve it.
