‘The Witcher’s Liam Hemsworth Reveals the Truth About His “Reluctance” to Replace Henry Cavill

As a big fan of The Witcher, I was totally gutted when I heard Henry Cavill was leaving after three seasons! It was such a shock, especially when Chris Hemsworth – you know, the Hunger Games guy – was announced as the new Geralt. Now that Season 4 is almost here and Chris is officially taking the lead, he’s finally talked about the transition and what it’s been like stepping into Henry’s shoes – or, should I say, monster hunting boots!

Liam Hemsworth recently told RadioTimes.com that he almost turned down the role of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 4. He was hesitant about stepping into a leading role in a show that already had an established history and fanbase.

Initially, I wasn’t very enthusiastic about the project. I had many questions and concerns. I was already a big fan of the original video game, and I’d also enjoyed the TV series and read the books, so I was cautious about how any adaptation would turn out.

It’s exciting to join a show that already has such a dedicated and enthusiastic fanbase. I’m really grateful for their passion and how much they care about the series.

Liam Hemsworth Will Make Geralt His Own in ‘The Witcher’ Season 4

Despite some hesitation, Liam Hemsworth will be taking over the role of the White Wolf in The Witcher, which is planned to conclude after its fifth season. He explained that, similar to Henry Cavill, he accepted the part because he’s a fan of the Witcher universe.

I only took on this project because I genuinely liked the source material. Being a fan was the main reason I wanted to be involved, and I believed I could portray the character well and offer a unique take on the story.

What really captivated me was Geralt’s emotional journey at this point in the story. He’s undergoing a significant change, facing a lot of doubt, confusion, and worry – something we haven’t often seen from him. It feels like a very genuine and vulnerable place for his character.

Ever since Henry Cavill unexpectedly left the show, there’s been a lot of talk and guessing about why. Now, the show’s creator, Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich, is moving forward with recasting the role, and Liam Hemsworth is eager to put his own spin on the character. Schmidt-Hissrich has stated…

We were determined to preserve key aspects of Geralt’s character. His appearance, of course, had to remain consistent. While he’s evolving as a person, certain things are essential to who he is – things like his white hair, yellow eyes, black leather clothing, preference for dark colors, and his distinctive way of carrying himself.

We kept those elements in the story, but our first meeting was really led by Liam’s character. He had a strong need to establish a connection with Geralt, and it was important to allow him to pursue that and discover how their relationship would develop.

You’ll be able to see how the casting changes work out when Season 4 of The Witcher arrives on Netflix on Thursday, October 30th.
