The movie Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc has been very well-received by both critics and fans. Here’s a look at how much money the anime adaptation needs to make to become profitable.
Anime has been doing incredibly well in theaters worldwide recently, largely thanks to the hit movie Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.
The movie was released in the US on September 12, 2025, and rapidly became the most successful Japanese film ever made, earning over $666 million worldwide.
The Chainsaw Man movie, based on the Reze Arc, has been a huge success internationally, earning a lot of revenue.
How much Chainsaw Man needs to make to break even

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc cost a little over $4 million to make, and it needs to earn around $10 million to become profitable.
That number comes from the fact that new movies generally need to earn about 2.5 times their production cost just to cover expenses. This is because of extra costs like payments to theaters, merchandise production, and taxes.
Okay, so the movie reportedly cost around $4 million to make, but that’s not the whole story. There’s also all the money spent on advertising and getting it out there. Plus, the studios – Sony and Crunchyroll here – don’t get to keep everything from ticket sales. They usually only get around 50 to 60%, and even less when you factor in international box office numbers. It’s a lot more complicated than just looking at the initial budget!
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc box office total

I’m so excited for Chainsaw Man! I just saw that Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc made around $17.3 million in the US after its opening weekend, playing in over 3,000 theaters! That’s amazing!
The actual revenue significantly exceeded last week’s projections of $11 to $15 million. This is especially impressive considering the World Series between the Blue Jays and Dodgers was drawing a lot of attention over the weekend.
With $90.7 million earned internationally, the movie Chainsaw Man has now made over $108 million worldwide, putting it firmly in profitable territory.
The film’s numbers are expected to climb even higher, thanks to overwhelmingly positive reactions. It currently boasts a 96% rating from critics and a remarkable 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, plus an ‘A’ grade from CinemaScore, all indicating strong positive buzz and likely continued success in the coming days.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the audience was made up of 75% men, and half were younger than 25.
