Teacher in Japan uses Hideo Kojima’s P.T. to teach students English

A Japanese teacher is using the video game demo P.T. (from Hideo Kojima) to help students learn English.

Before the game Silent Hill f, there was P.T., which stands for “Playable Teaser.” Released over a decade ago, it was created by Hideo Kojima as a demo for a cancelled game called Silent Hills.

The project was soon cancelled, and P.T. was removed from the PlayStation Store, making it very difficult to play now.

Many people may have forgotten about it, and those new to horror games might not even know it exists. However, one teacher in Japan did use the game P.T. as a teaching tool, incorporating it into an English lesson for their students.

On October 22, 2025, the class was held entirely in English at Tsunan Secondary School in Niigata Prefecture.

The school website explained that students improved their spoken English by playing a game where they practiced common, everyday phrases. They did this by reading lines describing simple actions like going for a walk, moving around a room, or answering a phone call.

While demonstrating, the teacher would occasionally stop and ask students what they’d like to do next.

As you’d expect from a Silent Hill game, there were some genuinely frightening moments. The school blog reported that students jumped when the phone rang during the game. Despite the spooky setting, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and had a positive experience practicing their English.

Although P.T. wasn’t developed into a complete game, with the positive reception of Silent Hill f and the Silent Hill 2 remake, it’s evident the team is working to bring the Silent Hill series back.

As a huge Silent Hill fan, I’m so excited to hear that Bloober Team is still working on Silent Hill Townfall! They officially confirmed the Silent Hill 1 remake earlier this month, which is amazing. And, get this – there’s talk that they might even remake Silent Hill 3 next! But, it’s just a rumor right now, so we’ll have to wait and see if it’s true.
