Be warned, this article contains spoilers for Season 5, Episode 2 of Ghosts. The latest episode of Ghosts reveals a darker side to the history of Woodstone Mansion through the stories of some of its resident spirits. While the show premiered a bit later than other fall TV series, CBS is now releasing new episodes weekly. This installment features a compelling storyline involving the characters Sass, Trevor, and Isaac.
Sam and Jay have settled into life at Woodstone Mansion with their ghostly housemates, even though Jay can’t see the spirits. The ghosts often try to pressure Sam into helping them, but overall, everyone seems content. However, as revealed in the Ghosts season 5 episode “Viking Wedding,” this isn’t the full story.
The Spirits Still Want To Be Sucked Off Despite Woodstone Mansion’s Cheery Vibe
I was completely floored by the season 5 premiere of Ghosts – Carol’s… well, let’s just say it was a shocking moment! It’s got everyone at Woodstone Mansion talking about that whole situation again. And even though Pete is happily involved with Alberta and can now move around freely, he’s really grappling with the fact that he almost didn’t make it. He keeps thinking about how his ex-wife stepped in and sacrificed herself using Jay’s trouble to save him, and it’s clearly weighing on him.
Even more problematic than his outburst is the side story involving Trevor and Sass, where they awkwardly try to understand a sexual act. This storyline highlights that despite Sam and Jay’s efforts to make Woodstone Mansion a welcoming and enjoyable place for the ghosts, the spirits still long to move on to the afterlife.
Trevor and Sass try to earn their way off Earth by performing favors for people they meet while stuck on a customer service phone line. When their friend Isaac learns what they’re up to, he eagerly joins their unusual scheme.
Will Ghosts Ever Let A Main Spirit Get Sucked Off?
Since the show Ghosts began, three ghosts have been removed from the story. Importantly, none of them were major characters. The first was Sam’s mother, who appeared only once before disappearing. Another was a nameless ghost found in the basement, initially suspected of being connected to Flower’s disappearance. Most recently, Carol was removed in season 5, episode 1.
I absolutely adore the cast of Ghosts, but I understand the show has to stay true to its core idea. Sam made a promise to help these ghosts move on, and if no one ever leaves, it feels like she’s not keeping that promise. It’s bittersweet, but necessary. Thankfully, CBS has already renewed the show for at least another season, and honestly, if it goes on much longer, some ghosts will have to move on, and I think that’s okay – it keeps the story feeling honest and meaningful.
