Aquaman’s New Power Upgrade Proves He Could Be a Force in DCU’s Justice League

For quite some time, Aquaman was often seen as a subject of humor. Despite holding immense mystical and political authority as the King of Atlantis, he was frequently ridiculed for merely communicating with fish. However, the ongoing DC All-In series has bestowed upon Arthur Curry an impressive power boost. This transformation has made the King of the Seven Seas a formidable character, making his entry into the DC Universe highly anticipated.

Jeremy Adams penned the ongoing Aquaman series, with illustrations by John Timms, propelling Arthur Curry into a cosmic tale. On a quest to find those culprits who devastated Atlantis, Curry evolved as the emblem of a mystical power known interchangeably as The Blue or The Clear. This aligns with Swamp Thing and The Green’s bond, which unites all vegetation across the cosmos. Just like how The Green links all plant life, The Blue binds every water-dwelling creature in a similar manner.

Throughout his adventures, Aquaman’s abilities have been linked to “The Blue”, but recently, being an avatar has boosted his powers and physique significantly. This stronger bond with “The Blue” has also granted Arthur Curry enhanced perception, enabling him to not only navigate easily but also sense the hidden currents within “The Blue”. As a result, in issue #9 of Aquaman, he was able to find his way back home after a lengthy trip through time and space.

How powerful is Aquaman now?

Aquaman’s power, described as being equivalent to an infinite number of oceans flowing through him, is hard to measure precisely. To put it simply, the Atlantean wizard Arion suggests that Aquaman, with his newfound omniscience, might as well be considered a deity, or a god. Furthermore, Aquaman speaks of having the ability to feel hurricanes before they occur and hearing the cries of someone swimming leagues away, which further emphasizes his extraordinary abilities.

In the reunion with his Justice League comrades, Aquaman demonstrates his recently acquired might, as they confront a Superman possessed by an evil spirit. Remarkably, Aquaman stands up to a powerful blow from Superman and even momentarily disorients him. This gives Arion the opportunity to exorcise the demon. Above all, this display of strength highlights the transformation in Aquaman. Furthermore, it establishes a high bar for the character in upcoming DCU film interpretations.

Aquaman #9 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
