Microsoft is already developing the next generation of Xbox consoles. Sarah Bond, president of Xbox, recently confirmed that new consoles are in development, just days after the release of the ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X, which were created with Asus.
In a recent interview with Variety, Xbox head Sarah Bond confirmed the company is actively working on future hardware. She stated they are “100% looking at making things” and have next-generation hardware already in development, including prototyping and design work. Bond also highlighted their ongoing partnership with AMD to support these plans.
Microsoft has reaffirmed its commitment to building hardware, marking the second time this month it’s addressed concerns about leaving the business. Rumors surfaced in early October suggesting the future of Xbox consoles was uncertain, and a former member of the original Xbox team recently expressed doubts about Microsoft’s continued interest in creating new devices.
A recent Variety report also suggests Microsoft is considering building its own portable gaming device, similar to a handheld console. This comes after reports in June indicated the project had been put on hold.
Microsoft increased prices for Xbox consoles and its Game Pass Ultimate subscription recently. The Xbox Series S now costs $400, up from $380, and the Xbox Series X starts at $600, an increase from $550. Additionally, the monthly cost of Game Pass Ultimate rose from $20 to $30.
