Many great games don’t get the recognition they deserve. While titles like *Grand Theft Auto 5* and *Call of Duty* are massive hits and often discussed – sometimes with debate over their quality – not every game can achieve that level of popularity. There are plenty of highly-rated games that remain relatively unknown, acting as hidden gems waiting to be discovered by players.
A well-received but overlooked game is getting a fresh chance to shine. *1000xResist*, released on May 9, 2024—the same day as *Animal Well*—didn’t get as much attention as some other titles. However, it will be available on PS5 and Xbox Game Pass on November 4, 2025, giving more players a chance to experience it.
1000xResist Is One Of The Most Underrated Games Of 2024
While many independent games focus on relaxing experiences, *1000xResist* is different. It follows Iris Kwan, whose parents immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong during the 2019-2020 protests against Chinese government interference. Set in 2047, the game explores how the trauma of those events affected Iris, leading to struggles with anger and difficulty connecting with her family and peers.
1000xResist subtly references the COVID-19 pandemic, which deeply impacted the world starting in the early 2020s and continues to be a concern. The game begins with an alien invasion that unleashes a deadly disease, mirroring the historical spread of illness when colonists arrived in the New World – this time, the devastation is nearly total.
Okay, so this event really kicks things off. I was thrown way into the future, and it’s…empty. Everyone I knew is just *gone*. But here’s the crazy part: I found out I can make clones of myself! They basically became my descendants, and they totally worship me. They’re trying to figure out who I was and what happened to cause all this, and honestly, it’s a really cool setup. It’s a story every gamer needs to play, seriously.
1000xResist Was A Labor Of Love
1000xResist is a clearly heartfelt game developed by Sunset Visitor, a Vancouver-based studio led by Asian-Canadian creators. The studio describes itself as a collective of artists with ten years of experience in various performing arts, including dance, theatre, and music, who are now bringing their experimental approach to video games.
The studio behind the game focuses on making story-driven science fiction games that highlight untold perspectives, and that commitment really shines through in *1000xResist*. It’s a sci-fi adventure with a deeply personal story that feels truly impactful. If you enjoy games like *Nier: Automata*, *1000xResist* is definitely worth checking out.
Since its launch, *1000xResist* has been critically acclaimed, even winning a Peabody Award. Review scores are also high, with an 89 on OpenCritic, ranking it among the best 1% of all games. However, despite the praise, sales have been relatively low – around 100,000 copies. With its release on new platforms, the game has a good chance to reach a wider audience and gain the recognition it deserves.
Fellow Traveller announced that their game, *1000xRESIST*, will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 4, 2025. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass, allowing subscribers to play it at no extra cost. While it might not become as popular as games like *GTA*, these new releases should help more people discover it.
