Be warned: major spoilers follow for the first episode of *Boston Blue*, which is now available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription.
The new show *Boston Blue* kicked off on TV in 2025, bringing back Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan. While the series is set in Boston, hints suggested we’d see some returning characters. It was already known that Bridget Moynahan would reprise her role as Erin Reagan for the premiere, and viewers enjoyed seeing her support her brother after Sean was hospitalized. However, that wasn’t the only surprise appearance, and fans were thrilled by another unexpected guest.
When Mika Amonsen’s character, Sean, was injured in a fire, Danny received the news while he was with Marisa Ramirez’s character, Maria Baez. The late-night call confirmed that their characters are still a couple, following the end of the *Blue Bloods* series.
It’s no surprise that many social media users were thrilled to see Maria appear, particularly because she and Danny finally became a couple at the end of *Blue Bloods*.
It was a pleasant surprise to see Ramirez on *Boston Blue*, and fans were especially happy it happened so quickly in the season. But that wasn’t the last mention of her in the premiere episode.
When Erin visited, she mentioned Maria, which seemed to strengthen their connection, and one fan loved seeing that happen.
For years, viewers of *Blue Bloods* hoped to see Danny and Maria become a couple. Their connection grew stronger, particularly after the off-screen death of Danny’s wife between seasons seven and eight. Fans were thrilled when they finally went on a date at the end of the series. Now, *Boston Blue* is letting us see their relationship continue to develop, and it’s even more satisfying – the long wait was definitely worth it!

It’s wonderful to see these characters happy together after everything they’ve been through on *Blue Bloods*, but it will take some time to adjust to them as a couple. Still, a lot of fans are thrilled and are already playfully teasing them about it.
The latest episode of *Boston Blue* had a lot going for it, especially with Maria unexpectedly coming back. The family dinner scenes felt fresh and different compared to *Blue Bloods*, and Danny’s new partner, Lena (played by Sonequa Martin-Green), looks like a great addition to the team. There’s definitely a lot to anticipate in future episodes.
