In the game Honkai: Star Rail, Mydei is a freshly added Imaginary Destruction character who becomes accessible during the Amphoreus region’s storyline. Although he shares a similar Path and Element with Imbibitor Lunae, Mydei distinguishes himself through gameplay mechanics that focus on deliberate HP depletion and recovery—a self-sustaining cycle. This distinctive approach allows him to enhance his damage significantly without overly relying on external sources.

Due to the versatility in his equipment, Mydei can operate effectively without a dedicated sub-DPS, but certain characters work particularly well with him. Generally speaking, Mydei performs optimally when paired with teammates who boost stats like HP, Critical Rate, Critical Damage, or overall damage. Characters that offer universal buffs or debuffs, such as Resistance Penetration, can significantly enhance his damaging capability. Moreover, since Mydei excels at utilizing his Ultimate ability, having team members who facilitate this—either by regenerating energy or manipulating turns—can greatly improve his performance. Here are some ideal team combinations for both free-to-play players and those with premium characters:

1. For F2P players: Mydei + Diluc (for Energy Regeneration) + Barbara (for Healing) + Fischl (for Energy Recharge) or Xiangling (for Crowd Control).
2. For Premium players: Mydei + Klee (for Turn Manipulation and Damage Boost) + Bennett (for HP, ATK, and Swirl Buffs) + Mona (for Turn Manipulation and Energy Recharge).

Mydei + Sunday + Tribbie + Luocha

Mydei performs well with multiple types of assistance units, however, the mix of Sunday and certain support characters may not be optimal for Mydei since he doesn’t require ATK boosts or additional damage from follow-up buffs like Robin. Instead, these support units can be utilized in other team configurations. Proper skill point allocation is crucial for Mydei, as he prefers to use his Skill over his regular attack during his turns.

On Sundays, Mydei really shines because he’s agnostic to skill points and can move up his turn order with his abilities, enhancing both his base damage and critical rate. Moreover, Sunday’s ultimate ability grants a critical damage boost and rejuvenates Mydei’s energy, making him the perfect companion for unleashing his full damaging capabilities.

In this setup, Tribbie fits seamlessly. She adjusts according to HP and provides global buffs such as Resistance Penetration with her Skill, along with increased enemy damage intake when her Ultimate zone is active. Moreover, Tribbie’s damage is amplified by the collective HP of the team thanks to her extra ability, creating a harmonious relationship with Mydei’s HP-scaling mechanisms for boosting her own damage potential. If players arm Tribbie with the Dance! Dance! Dance! (DDD) light cone, she will also advance all allies, which will be advantageous in Mydei’s team compositions as he favors high speed.

In terms of the healer role, players enjoy a good deal of versatility. Units that provide sustain perform admirably with Mydei, but healers stand out as the most effective. Top-tier choices such as Luocha are strongly suggested due to his ability to accumulate skill points and offer powerful overhealing, making him an ideal match for Mydei’s team. He is also capable of removing debuffs from the team and counteracting enemy buffs, which will be particularly handy in content where enemies heavily self-buff. In contrast, units like Lingsha or Huohuo may be more suitable for FuA, break-focused, or ATK-scaling teams, making Luocha a preferable choice for Mydei’s sustain. However, if players don’t have access to Luocha, other options will work equally well, and even free-to-play units like Lynx can be beneficial for him.

Although premium units such as Sunday offer stronger synergy with Mydei, the Remembrance Trailblazer emerges as an exceptional F2P substitute. They offer beneficial team-wide enhancements like increased Critical Damage, action advancement, and the capability for Mydei to inflict True Damage – boosting his overall efficiency.

As a gamer, I’d definitely recommend giving Pela a try! Just like Luocha, she’s got the knack for stripping enemy buffs and dealing Defense Shred or other debuffs based on her Light Cone setup. What makes Pela stand out is her friendly approach to skill point management – with her around, my buddy Mydei can focus more on using his skills effectively without worrying too much about managing those precious skill points.

As a gamer, I can vouch that Lynx is an outstanding free-to-play choice for my game’s strategy, especially when it comes to synergizing with Mydei. She not only bolsters my team but also significantly improves Mydei’s resilience and damage output. Her unique ability to heighten the aggression of Destruction and Preservation path units draws enemies towards Mydei more often. Plus, her skill triggers Survival Response, enhancing Mydei’s Max HP, health regeneration, and damage scaling – making him even tougher and more damaging. And if I manage to get Lynx’s sixth Eidolon, the HP increase becomes even more powerful, placing her on par with premium sustain units in my team compositions featuring Mydei.
