Silent Hill f actor says she broke down in tears recording Hinako’s scenes

The actress who played Hinako Shimizu in Silent Hill f has shared how deeply she connected with the role, to the point where she felt disconnected from her own identity while recording her performance.

Konatsu Kato, the Japanese actress portraying the troubled high school student, shared that the more she immersed herself in the role, the more difficult it became to distinguish herself from the character’s emotions and experiences.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, translated using machine translation, Kato discussed how playing the role took an emotional toll as the story progressed.

She explained that as they continued recording, the story became increasingly complex. She realized she was losing track of what was happening, thinking to herself, ‘Wasn’t this the same scene a moment ago? But the dialogue and feelings are different… I’m confused – where am I, and what’s going on, Hinako?’

Kato explained that as she played the character Hinako, she started to lose sight of where she ended and the character began. She felt increasingly confused about her own identity, both on screen and in her personal life.

I often found myself crying for no reason at all. The more I interacted with her, the more lost and confused I became, to the point where I felt like I was losing my mind.

Kato has spoken before about how difficult it was to create the character Hinako. She previously described feeling overwhelmed during the project in June, but ultimately felt the effort was worthwhile.

Kato’s work as Hinako was clearly successful. Fans and critics are both impressed with the game’s scary atmosphere and deeply unsettling story.
