Capcom revealed plans at Tokyo Game Show last month to charge viewers for access to both the Capcom Cup and Street Fighter League esports events. The fighting game community strongly opposed this change, and Capcom has now stated it will re-evaluate its decision.
According to VGC, Capcom has released a statement saying they are looking into the pricing for the upcoming event. They plan to share final pricing details and more information about the pay-per-view broadcast next month.
Beginning October 10th at 2:00 AM Pacific Time, fans will have a chance to win tickets to attend CAPCOM CUP 12 and the Street Fighter League: World Championship 2025, both held at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. More information will be available at Tokyo Game Show…

At the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom revealed its plans to charge for watching its upcoming fighting game tournaments. The Capcom Cup finals on March 14th and the Street Fighter League finals on March 15th will each cost 4,000 yen to stream – about $27. You can also buy both streams together for a discounted price of 6,000 yen, which is around $40. In the past, Capcom streamed these events for free on Twitch and YouTube, and they also sold cosmetic items for the games.
The announcement quickly sparked negative reactions on social media from both fans and people involved in making the game. Takayuki Nakayama, the director of Street Fighter 6, shared on X that even the development team was caught off guard, and he apologized for any worry it caused.
Street Fighter 6 is out now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 & 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The game is currently receiving its third set of downloadable content, and a new character, Crimson Viper, will be added on October 15th.
