The Event titled “Gift” offers a single, free, top-tier character without any charges, and this event will remain active until the conclusion of version 3.2. Since there’s no need to hurry, feel free to partake in it whenever you like. However, if the thought of forgetting about the offer later lingers in your mind, I recommend claiming the reward promptly.

Which 5-Star Standard Character Should You Choose?

When it comes to Express Gift in the game Honkai: Star Rail, there are several top-tier characters available for selection, such as Himeko, Welt, Bronya, Gepard, Clara, Yanqing, and Bailu. Despite the introduction of newer characters with similar functions, these units remain popular choices, particularly in end-game content.

Himeko (AoE DPS)

When it comes to selecting a unit, Himeko could be an excellent choice if you’re short on common characters. Initially, when the game was launched, Himeko might not have been popular among meta players due to the scarcity of AoE content. However, with the introduction of the Pure Fiction game mode, Himeko has emerged as a dominant figure in this mode thanks to her powerful AoE attacks. If you’re in need of a unit that excels in Area of Effect damage, Himeko should be your top pick.

If you currently possess Himeko at level E0 and are considering upgrading her to E1, it’s important to note that her effectiveness can be contextual. In certain scenarios, if Himeko is paired with a buffer unit and her Speed stat is boosted, she might overtake her supporting units in speed.

Welt (Debuffer & Sub/Hybrid DPS)

Unlike Himeko, Welt was generally well-received when the game initially launched because his stats were suitable for the Simulated Universe and Memory of Chaos. However, as MoC has expanded, enemy health levels have risen and difficulty has increased significantly, making his damage seem rather insignificant. In terms of Sub-DPS roles within a team, he’s overshadowed by numerous other Sub-DPS characters who can deliver more debuffs and higher damage. This is particularly true in the current meta where pure buffers and debuffers are prevalent. As a result, his recommendation priority isn’t particularly high, rated at 2 out of 5 stars.

If you currently possess the E0 Welt and it has already been invested in, the quality of his E1 is quite satisfactory and could serve as a reasonable endpoint. Other effects of Eidolon are contextual and may not be deemed particularly strong in all situations.

Bronya (Buffer)

Among the characters, Bronya stands out as exceptionally versatile in both past and present game metas. While Sunday could potentially take over as the new standard due to his advanced summoning abilities (expected to dominate in Amphoreus 3.0), it doesn’t devalue Bronya’s worth. There are numerous other damage dealers, like Jing Yuan, that function well with Bronya. If you don’t have either of them, Bronya is strongly suggested as a top pick.

Bronya’s upgrade level E1 is fantastic, and it surpasses E0! Keep in mind that she lacks SP as a SP-negative character, which means you use her skill often. Upgrading to E1 offers a solution by granting 1 Skill Point whenever Bronya employs her ability, albeit with a 50% chance. It’s better than nothing!

Gepard (Shielder)

In the game Honkai: Star Rail, you might notice that there aren’t many Shielder characters. As a result, some Trailblazers may keep an eye out for Gepard. Whether you’re a new player or not, you might have come across comparisons between Gepard and Aventurine (another Preservation unit). To be honest, Gepard is quite good, but it lags significantly behind Aventurine due to the latter’s ease of use and consistency in creating shields. One ideal team for Gepard includes Acheron and utilizing the Trend of the Universal Market LC (if there’s no Jiaoqiu).

In essence, while Gepard’s Eidolon overall is decent, his standout feature is his E4, which boosts the entire team’s Effective Resistance, a crucial asset in end-game content. As new foes persistently apply debuffs to your characters, this enhancement proves to be a game-changer. However, setting such a high standard can make it difficult to appreciate other abilities, so let’s discuss his E1. This skill grants a 100% base chance for freezing enemies upon activation. Although you may not frequently utilize the skill due to preferring to conserve SP for DPS and buffer units, using it in a pinch can be a vital move, especially when Gepard requires additional Energy for his shield.

Clara (Counter DPS)

Despite having Yunli as the new Counter DPS, Clara still shines a lot in the end-game content. Since Clara doesn’t need any SPD, you can focus building her with ATK and Crit to maximize her damage output. There is a downside though. As mentioned in the pro, her damage is outside of her turns and she needs to be attacked by enemies to trigger the Follow-Up ATK aka her main damage output. Unfortunately, Clara doesn’t have built in increased aggro like Gepard so you can only rely on Dance at Sunset LC or teammate that can increased aggro like March 7th and Lynx, which is an easily obtainable 4-star characters. If you’re lacking DPS character, she’s the one to go.

If you possess Clara, it would be advantageous to select her ability E1, as this eliminates the bothersome issue of her skill conflicting with Mark of Counter. Should you already own E1, then opting for E2 is equally beneficial!

Yanqing (Single-Target DPS)

As much as I love Yanqing’s character development when he’s fighting against Hoolay in the Trailblaze Mission, still can’t deny how it didn’t mirrored his kit in the game. Yanqing is a Hunt character which mean he’s a single-target DPS. These kind of DPS isn’t bad per se (I mean, look at Feixiao), but Yanqing is on a whole other level.
To put it nicely, he’s decent. He needs to avoid taking damage to keep his Soulsteel Sync up or his damage will drop significantly. In other words, he needs a working shielder (Aventurine is his best friend) to prevent himself being hit by enemies. Even with that, his damage is not enough in the current end-game content where the enemies have humongous HP pool, especially since his main output is from Ultimate and you’ll have a hard time getting Energy. Maybe choose him if you already got everyone else? But if not, choose other character please.
(Priority) Rating: 1⭐/5⭐

In Yanqing’s unique repertoire, it’s primarily his E4 that boosts his resistance to ice damage penetration. If you come close to reaching that point, I extend my sympathies to you.

Bailu (Healer)

Initially, when the game was new, losing to Bailu felt like winning due to the scarcity of healers, with only Natasha available alongside Bailu. However, in modern times, an abundance of healers has emerged, offering more than just healing capabilities, such as cleansing – a feature that Bailu lacks. In the current game content, most enemies can impose debuffs on your characters, making cleansing a crucial element when engaging them. If you don’t have other healers, Bailu remains a valuable asset for your team, but it’s advisable to be cautious when confronting bosses with debuff abilities.

If you possess Bailu, her ability E1 can be quite beneficial (though specific), as when your characters become excessively healed – a scenario that might occur frequently – it transforms into Energy.
