Fifteen years ago, Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise appeared in an action-comedy movie that critics didn’t like. However, despite a poor start, the film *Knight and Day* seems to be gaining popularity now that it’s available on streaming services.
Okay, so I was checking Prime Video’s charts today, October 11, 2025, and you won’t believe this – *Knight and Day* is currently at number 10! It’s actually been climbing, breaking into the top ten yesterday. What’s really cool is that it’s doing so well even with all the newer, big-budget movies out right now – it’s even beating a film that made over a billion dollars at the box office! Besides that, Mark Wahlberg’s *Play Dirty* is still holding strong at number one, and *No Time to Die* is right behind it at number two.
Following their successful pairing in the 2001 film *Vanilla Sky*, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz teamed up again for *Knight and Day*. Directed by James Mangold, the movie playfully spoofs the action-comedy genre. The story centers around June Havens (Diaz), who unexpectedly finds herself involved with Roy Miller (Cruise), a quirky secret agent dodging the CIA.
When they meet on a flight from Kansas, neither Diaz nor Cruise’s character realizes the exciting international journey that’s about to begin. They end up working together, and June finds herself in serious trouble as their mission takes them across continents – from Boston to Austria, Spain, and many other locations. The movie playfully pokes fun at action films, but also celebrates them with thrilling, fast-paced action scenes.
Even with stars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, the movie *Knight and Day* wasn’t a hit with critics or viewers. It received a ‘Rotten’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics giving it a score of just 51% based on over 229 reviews. Audience scores were even lower, with only 49% of more than 100,000 voters enjoying the film.
While many praised the exciting action and the performances of Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise, the movie’s predictable storyline held it back. Despite this, the film was a financial success, earning $262 million globally on a budget of $117 million, demonstrating strong audience interest.
Tom Cruise’s Recent Action Movies Have Proven Much More Successful
Despite not performing well in theaters, Tom Cruise continues to be a huge draw for action films. Recent movies like the 2022 blockbuster that earned $1.496 billion and the new *Mission: Impossible* film, which has already made over $598 million worldwide, prove his staying power. He’s also slated to star in a black comedy directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the director of *The Revenant*, which is expected to be released in 2026.
I’m still a huge fan of Jennifer Diaz, and it’s amazing to see how popular she remains! She even went back to doing action movies this year, which I loved. She just starred in a new comedy with Jamie Foxx where they play undercover CIA agents who are forced back into the field when their identities are revealed. It started streaming on Netflix on January 17th, 2025, and I definitely checked it out!
Knight and Day is now streaming on Prime Video.
