Patrick Mahomes, QB (Kansas City Chiefs) – 96 OVR (+1)

Mahomes and the Chiefs lost last week, and the HOF-bound QB is partly to blame.

A defensive touchdown of 99 yards unfortunately overshadowed what was looking like Mahomes’ strongest performance of the year. He had a completion rate of over 70% and passed for more than 300 yards, all without key receivers Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice. Although Travis Kelce is still a valuable player, his performance isn’t quite what it used to be – age is starting to show.

As a Chiefs fan, I’m a little worried about our running game right now. It feels like we’re not really committing to it. Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco only got seven carries each in the last game, and surprisingly, Patrick Mahomes actually led the team in rushing yards! Looking at the season so far, both of those guys are averaging under ten carries a game, which just makes our offense too easy to predict for opposing defenses. We really need to establish the run to open things up for Mahomes.

Nevertheless, Mahomes’ Madden rating increased.

Jonathan Taylor, HB (Indianapolis Colts) – 93 OVR (+2)

Rushing Yards: 1st
Rushing TDs: 1st
Rushing Attempts: 1st

Although Taylor only rushed for 66 yards in the team’s 40-6 victory against the Raiders, his three touchdowns were a major contribution and are helping to boost his overall player rating.

Taylor is currently the league’s leading rusher with 480 yards and 6 touchdowns, and he’s on track to finish the season as the leader in both categories. While there’s still a lot of football to be played, he seems set for a fantastic year. The Colts’ offense is looking strong this year, largely thanks to a solid offensive line.

This week will be a tough test for them, as they go up against one of the league’s strongest run defenses – the ninth-ranked in the league.

Kerby Joseph, FS (Detroit Lions) – 91 OVR (+1)

Joseph intercepted a pass thrown by Jake Browning during the team’s 37-24 victory against Cincinnati. This was his third interception of the season, putting him in a tie for second place in the league for interceptions in 2025.

It’s surprising that all three of Joseph’s interceptions have only resulted in one yard of return. Basically, when he intercepts the ball, he tends to go down right where he caught it! But seriously, players like Joseph are key to the Lions’ success, and they’re currently riding a four-game winning streak. Now, we’ll see if they can secure a strong win against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Rico Dowdle, RB (Carolina Panthers) – 81 OVR (+2)

Wow, I was seriously impressed with Dowdle’s game against the Dolphins! He ran for a massive 206 yards, which is the most any player has managed in a single game all season. It even beat out Derrick Henry’s big performance in Week 1 and Jonathan Taylor’s in Week 2 – that’s how good he was!

Dowdle added a touchdown in the fourth quarter, giving the Panthers a 20-17 lead. He also had a key 16-yard run during the drive that ultimately won the game. It remains to be seen if he can maintain this performance this weekend against the Cowboys, who have given up the 11th-most rushing yards this season.

Daniel Jones, QB (Indianapolis Colts) – 77 OVR (+2)

It feels like Jones’ rating could be a bit higher, but at least he got something.

Okay, so people are talking about how Jones only has six passing touchdowns, but honestly, that’s not a bad thing! It just means the Colts are running and passing the ball *really* well as a team. Jonathan Taylor is a beast on the ground, and Jones? He’s been super accurate with his throws, hasn’t turned the ball over much, and can even pick up yards with his feet – he’s got three rushing touchdowns! Plus, right now, he’s actually number one in QBR, which is amazing to see.

Jones had a strong performance last week, completing 20 out of 29 passes for 212 yards and one touchdown, leading his team to a 40-6 victory over Las Vegas. This win was a welcome recovery after a close loss the previous week.

It’s still early in the season, so we’ll need to see how Jones performs throughout the year. However, right now, the Colts appear to be a top contender.

Several players also saw their Madden 26 ratings go up before Week 6.

  • Antoine Winfield Jr. – 92 OVR (+1)

  • Derek Stingley Jr. – 91 OVR (-2)

  • Jalen Hurts – 86 OVR (-1)
  • T.J. Hockenson – 86 OVR (-1)
  • D.J. Moore – 85 OVR (-1)

Week 6 kicked off last night with a surprising win for the New York Giants, who defeated the Eagles 34-17 on Thursday Night Football. Quarterback Jaxson Dart played exceptionally well, leading his team to five touchdowns with both passing and running plays. Running back Cam Skattebo also had a standout performance, powerfully scoring three touchdowns against the Eagles.
