Video games are getting incredibly large due to higher-resolution graphics, uncompressed sound, and more complex designs. This means storage space on computers and consoles is becoming increasingly valuable. To address this, some big games now let players choose which parts of the game to install, and the upcoming Battlefield 6 is following suit, allowing players to customize their installation to save space.
When you install the game on Steam, everything downloads automatically. But on consoles, you can choose which parts to install – like the single-player story, multiplayer mode, and high-resolution textures. Removing these optional parts isn’t obvious; the option is buried in the menus. The game *does* tell you after completing the story campaign that you can uninstall it, and provides a clear button to do so, but this isn’t communicated for other components upfront.
You can easily manage your installation on Steam – including uninstalling, installing, and choosing exactly which components to install from the start.
How to uninstall / install parts of BF6 within the game:
You can choose exactly which parts of BF6 get downloaded and installed on your console or PC, and you can do it right from within the game. Here’s how:
- Select the “Settings” cog from the top menu
- Go into the “System” tab.
- Right at the top, in the “Setup” area, you will see “Install / Uninstall”. Click on the “Edit” button.
From here, you can access a menu to manage all your game content. This includes options for multiplayer, the single-player story mode, and the high-resolution textures for both modes, which can be adjusted separately.
Selecting an option will bring you to a new screen where you can remove or add the content.
How to pick what parts you want to install on Steam:
When installing Battlefield on Xbox and PlayStation 5, you’ll be asked which game components to download. However, Steam doesn’t offer this option. Simply clicking “Install” on Steam will download the entire 75 GB game. If you’d like to customize the installation, here’s how to do it.
- Right-click Battlefield 6 in your Steam Library and select “Properties”
- In this menu, you will want to navigate to the “DLC” tab.
This will show you a list of everything that will be installed, like the single-player and multiplayer components. Simply uncheck the boxes next to anything you don’t need.
After that, simply install the game like usual, and you’ll save storage space immediately.
