MEGASTAR, MAESTRO
As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of film viewing under my belt, I must say that the upcoming collaboration between Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam in “Thug Life” is nothing short of cinematic magic. The duo’s history together, dating back to the iconic “Nayakan,” promises a narrative that will undoubtedly leave audiences spellbound.
On his birthday, it was revealed that veteran Indian actor Kamal Haasan’s 234th movie titled “Thug Life,” helmed by Mani Ratnam, will have a worldwide theater release on June 5, 2025. The announcement was accompanied by a first-glimpse teaser showcasing Haasan as his character Rangaraya Sakthivel Nayakar.
Before, they collaborated on the gangster film “Nayakan” (1987), which turned out to be a defining moment in their respective careers. This movie was a massive hit at the box office, earned Kamal Haasan the Best Actor award at India’s National Film Awards, and represented the country in the 1988 Oscars.
I’m utterly thrilled about the stellar cast of “Thug Life,” which includes Silambarasan T.R., Trisha Krishnan, Ali Fazal, Abhirami, and Nasser. This remarkable production is a collaboration between Haasan and Ratnam, with Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), Ratnam’s Madras Talkies, and Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies joining forces to bring it to life. The producers of this masterpiece are none other than Haasan, Ratnam, R. Mahendran, and Siva Ananth. To top it all off, the music is being crafted by A.R. Rahman, a multi-award winner at the Oscars, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Grammy!
Production companies have shared a preview, giving viewers a sneak peek at the roles played by Haasan and Silambarasan in a storyline that seems packed with action scenes.
SCRIPTING SUCCESS
Indian film star Prabhas, famous for his role in “Baahubali”, has endorsed a fresh digital platform called The Script Craft. This innovative site invites budding writers to submit brief story outlines of 250 words each, which can be rated and commented on by the audience. To kick things off, they’ve organized a competition titled “Imagine Your Favorite Hero with Superpowers.” The winner will secure a position as an assistant writer or assistant director in a future project.
Established by Thaalla Vaishnav and Pramod Uppalapati, this platform aims to incorporate audiobooks. Star Prabhas, busy with “Raja Saab,” “Salaar: Part 2” and “Kalki 2,” took to Instagram to promote its launch. At the moment, scripts are being accepted for submission on thescriptcraft.com.
