This Elder Scrolls Game Is Ending Development, Servers Going Offline

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming experiences under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tinge of melancholy at the news of The Elder Scrolls Legends being pulled from Steam and its servers shutting down in 2025. I remember the thrill of diving into its card-based gameplay set within the rich world of Tamriel back in 2017, a welcome addition to my ever-growing collection of Elder Scrolls titles.

Starting January 30, 2025, the free-to-play digital card game “The Elder Scrolls Legends” will no longer be purchasable on Steam, and its servers will be shut down.

Appreciate your gameplay, and we hope you had a fantastic experience within Legends. This game, set in the same fantasy realm as the primary Elder Scrolls series, debuted in 2017 as one of Bethesda’s mobile titles, along with Fallout Shelter and The Elder Scrolls: Blades.

The development for The Elder Scrolls Legends concluded in 2019; however, it continued to host regular events and rewards for devoted players. In recent times, there have been several prominent cancellations of live-service games, one of which stands out being Sony’s hero shooter Concord. After only a fortnight on the market, the game was shut down and permanently discontinued in October. Simultaneously, the developer Firewalk Studios ceased operations.

In September, Bethesda launched The Elder Scrolls: Castles for both iOS and Android devices. Much like Fallout Shelter, this game allows players to oversee their own castle, where they can rule their kingdom and fend off attacks by invaders from within their personal stronghold.

The game The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently being worked on, but it likely won’t be available for quite some time yet. Back in 2023, Todd Howard, head of Bethesda, mused about revealing The Elder Scrolls 6 prematurely, and more recently, Bruce Nesmith, a long-time employee at Bethesda, stated in an interview that it would be extremely challenging for The Elder Scrolls 6 to meet expectations when it eventually launches due to the immense hype surrounding its release.
