Korea Box Office: ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Holds for Second Weekend Win

As someone who’s spent countless hours engrossed in the world of cinema, I must say that the box office results this week in South Korea have been quite intriguing! The Venom: The Last Dance continuing its reign is no surprise, given my personal affection for superhero films and their adrenaline-pumping action sequences.

For a second consecutive week, “Venom: The Last Dance” emerged victorious at the South Korean box office, successfully defending its position against the local comedy, “Amazon Bullseye.

In its second complete weekend at the box office, “Venom” brought in $2.21 million, marking a significant decrease of 48% compared to the previously reported figure of $4.45 million by Kobis, a tracking service run by the Korean Film Council. Since its release on October 23rd, “Venom” has amassed a total of $9.34 million.

Over the weekend, “Amazon Bullseye,” freshly premiered, earned $1.45 million, while raking in $2.37 million during its first five days. The movie is a comedic venture directed by Kim Chang-ju and revolves around a Korean archery prodigy who encounters humility when a plane crash strands him in the South American wilderness among tribesmen boasting superior archery skills. The chuckles commence once he returns a trio to Korea.

In its third weekend at the box office, Hur Jin-ho’s film “A Normal Family” secured the third spot, earning $337,000. So far, “The Dinner,” an adaptation of Herman Koch’s novel about two couples who discuss a serious crime committed by their adult children, has amassed a total of $4.03 million.

In the “Love in the Big City” Korean series, which premiered on October 1st, earnings reached $282,000 to secure the fourth position. To date, the show has amassed a grand total of $5.63 million.

In Korea, the Japanese animated movie “Weathering With You” was recently re-released and managed to secure a spot among the top earners. This film initially premiered in 2019 and grossed approximately $268,000, ranking fifth place.

In its sixth week of screening in the U.S., the animated movie “The Wild Robot” earned approximately $176,000. To date, it has grossed around $4.16 million since its premiere in South Korea on October 1st.

The movie featuring Nicolas Cage titled “Longlegs” premiered on a Wednesday. Over the weekend, it made $116,000 and a total of $184,000 during its entire five-day opening period.

The Korean drama “4 Minutes 44 Seconds” premiered on Friday and managed to secure the eighth position over the weekend, earning approximately $76,100. It just barely outperformed the re-released American film “The Notebook,” which took ninth place with a box office total of around $76,000.

In tenth position was the animated film “The Nutcracker and the Magic Flute,” a production from Russia. Over the weekend, it garnered $53,000 in earnings, while during its first five days, it brought in $59,000.
