Devs of new Umamusume-style game expose “scam” Kickstarter that stole thousands

The creators of the popular car-racing game, known for its anime girl designs inspired by Umamusume, have admitted their recent Kickstarter campaign was fraudulent.

We first wrote about Project GT on June 12, 2026. It’s a new racing game where you drive as anime-style female characters transformed into cars.

The game immediately became popular among fans of Umamusume, who loved the unique character designs and exciting race footage featured in the trailer.

The game developers have announced that the original Kickstarter campaign was fraudulent and wasn’t connected to their team.

Project GT devs call out “scam” Kickstarter

Siphon Games announced on Bilibili, a Chinese social media site, that someone pretending to be them had fraudulently obtained funding from investors outside of China.

We recently found out that someone pretending to be our company started a fake crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for our upcoming game, Project GT.

So, I did some digging and found out where all that campaign stuff came from. Apparently, it was based on a really early business plan that got passed around internally and then somehow leaked out by one of our partners. It’s a bit frustrating, but at least we know what happened!

Siphon Games announced they aren’t involved with the creators of the Kickstarter campaign and said all the content used on the page was stolen. They described the campaign as a complete fraud.

The developers are taking legal steps against the people who created the fake page, which made thousands of dollars before it was taken down.

Siphon Games stated that protecting players is their top priority. They immediately began addressing the issue once it came to their attention and will take all possible legal steps to hold those responsible accountable.

We’ve reported the campaign to Kickstarter, and they’ve now stopped all payments to the creator. We’re still working with Kickstarter to get the project removed and refunds processed quickly.

The development team has asked anyone affected by this issue to request a refund from Kickstarter. They’ve also stated they will work with police if reports are filed. For direct contact, you can email them at gt@siphongames.cn and stay updated on the game’s progress through their Bilibili account.

Siphon Games stated they’re excited to release Project GT as soon as it’s ready. They emphasized their commitment to quality, wanting to deliver a polished game that meets player expectations and shows appreciation for their support.
