Curry Barker’s film, Obsession, is doing very well in cinemas, and many viewers are now wondering when it will be available to stream. Released by Focus Features on May 15, 2026, this psychological horror movie features Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette in a dark and unusual love story with supernatural elements.
The new Blumhouse horror film is a hit with audiences. Thanks to the director’s large online following, particularly on YouTube, Obsession has received almost entirely positive reviews. Critics love it, giving it a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences agree with a 94% score on the Popcornmeter. Plus, it earned an ‘A’ CinemaScore, meaning people are recommending it to others.
The film Obsession is performing exceptionally well in theaters, earning $148 million globally on a very small budget of under $1 million. What’s unusual is that its weekend box office numbers are actually increasing, showing strong and continued interest from audiences. Many people are heading to cinemas to see what is being called one of the best horror films of 2026.
If you’re hoping to stream Obsession, you’ll have to be patient. The movie studios haven’t announced a release date for home viewing yet. However, by looking at past release patterns, we can make an educated guess about when and where it will become available.
Although we don’t know exactly when, Obsession will eventually stream on Peacock. This is typical for movies from Focus Features and Universal Pictures. It will be available on Peacock for four months, then move to Netflix for ten months, and then return to Peacock.
Universal has a specific plan for how and when its movies come out in theaters and then become available to stream. They announced that most of their films will play in theaters for at least five weeks before being released for digital rental or purchase, and then on streaming services. However, movies released under their Focus Features label, such as Obsession, are an exception to this rule.
As a movie fan, I’m really glad to see Obsession doing so well in theaters! It means Universal and Focus probably won’t pull it quickly to make room for other films. They’re clearly treating it like a big deal, which is awesome, but it also suggests we might have to wait a bit longer than usual for it to hit streaming. I’m okay with that if it means the film gets the attention it deserves!
As a fan, I’ve noticed Universal usually makes us wait around three months after a horror movie leaves theaters before it hits streaming. Looking at recent releases like Black Phone 2, Him, Drop, Woman in the Yard, Abigail, and Night Swim, they all followed this 91-day pattern. If Obsession gets the same treatment, I’m predicting we’ll be able to stream it on Peacock around mid-August 2026. Honestly, given how well Obsession is still doing in theaters, that wait might even stretch into September, but I’m already marking my calendar!
After debuting on Peacock in August or September, the film Obsession is currently expected to become available on Netflix in December 2026 or January 2027. This means viewers will have to wait quite a while to see what’s already becoming a popular release this year.
If you miss seeing Obsession in theaters and want to watch it sooner than the three-to-four month wait for Peacock, you’ll have to be patient a little longer for a digital release. Universal and Focus have delayed the digital release, originally planned for June 2nd, because the movie is performing well in theaters.
Originally, the movie Obsession was going to be available digitally after only 18 days, but now it will stay in theaters for at least a month, and possibly even longer. This means its release on streaming services will be delayed. While some viewers might be frustrated by this, it shows that Obsession is performing very well in cinemas.
