Can you smell that excitement? It feels like the show is back, and honestly, I’ve been hoping for this since I started watching! Seeing the midseason trailer almost made me cry. It was like watching someone you believe in finally succeed – like a proud parent at a recital, even though the practice sessions weren’t perfect. I always knew they had the potential!
Tonight’s episode isn’t a dramatic or hilarious standout, but compared to other average episodes over the years, it’s a welcome return to what makes Bravo’s Sunday show so comforting. We saw a look back at NeNe, Cynthia mentoring young people, and even two interviews with people on the street! It nicely sets up what promises to be a busy second half of the season, as the women try to reconcile after the disagreements that surfaced during their trip to Dallas. While Phaedra originally hoped her sound bath event would bring everyone together, it ultimately falls apart, and the episode begins with the aftermath of the fight between Porsha and Kelli.
The show’s producers quickly separated Kelli from Porsha, because even though Kelli claimed she could have handled herself, everyone knows Porsha would have easily won a fight. The other women comforted Kelli as she dramatically declared she was going to “the depths of hell,” while the group followed Porsha back to the table to discuss what happened. Kelli continued ranting in the car, still angrily confronting her imagined opponent, shouting to Pinky that nobody controls her or Atlanta. It’s unclear why Porsha would even try to control Kelli, but Kelli seems to be operating by a different set of rules.
A few days after storming out of the sound bath, Kelli confessed to Phaedra that she’s a loyal, though sometimes petty, fan of Porsha Williams. She shared gossip she’d read online about a married man connected to Porsha’s divorce. Kelli apologized for her behavior, explaining that her own divorce is incredibly difficult. Her ex-husband is behaving like other problematic “house husbands,” such as Marc Daly and Jason Hoppy, using his parental rights to control her finances under the pretense of protecting their children. While it’s understandable to have safety concerns about children on camera, his actions seem deliberately malicious. It’s sad to hear Kelli’s daughters are upset about losing their involvement in their mother’s work, and I sympathize with her. I’m glad to see Phaedra offering legal advice again, but I hope Kelli avoids paying her in cash in a parking lot!
It’s ironic that Kelli, who recently befriended K. Michelle, is now doing to Porsha exactly what K. Michelle accuses the other women of doing to her: holding onto information to use against her on camera. K. Michelle now only suspects Drew of plotting against her, as she makes amends with Porsha and dismisses Phaedra (it’s easy to picture K. Michelle constantly revising her theories about who she can trust!). The episode also showed Porsha and K. Michelle starting to reconcile, with several moments focused on forgiveness and building better relationships. Angela made a heartfelt effort to welcome K. Michelle, and Pinky encouraged Porsha to understand K. Michelle’s perspective, ultimately leading to a significant breakthrough between Porsha and K. Michelle, with help from Pinky and Cynthia.
Porsha and K. have made up, which has temporarily eased tensions within the group. However, it’s hard to say how long this peace will last, given K. Michelle’s tendency to see things differently from everyone else. She’s now fixated on claiming someone made a rude comment about her feet, adding to her increasingly erratic behavior. It’s reminiscent of Kelly Bensimon’s infamous moments, but instead of bizarre outbursts in public, K. Michelle expresses her delusions online and through rambling statements. Unlike Kelly, K.’s behavior seems to stem from deep-seated insecurities, which is concerning for someone who started out so strong as a Housewife. Pinky explained to Cynthia, who missed the drama, that K. felt targeted by Porsha after a conversation with Kelli and a comment about her miscarriage – a situation K. believes is a deliberate plot against her, despite there being no evidence of it.
It’s ironic that K. is making such a big deal out of Porsha’s argument with Kelli. If someone’s first impression of K. was seeing her in a heated exchange with Drew, would it be fair to immediately call her unkind? As a seasoned reality TV personality, it’s surprising K. Michelle doesn’t realize conflicts are part of the show. As Porsha pointed out, things will only get more intense. After they make peace, K. focuses all her negativity on Drew, which the mid-season trailer suggests will lead to a major confrontation.
Drew is completely unaware of the trouble heading her way. She’s currently dealing with conflict among the large group of people she surrounds herself with – stylists, assistants, and everyone involved in her TV work. While navigating a divorce and trying to get organized, she’s hired a new manager to control the chaos. This isn’t a tight-knit, loyal group like her friends; it’s more like a collection of people hoping to benefit from her fame, and they’re causing plenty of drama.
This scene felt strange because we don’t have the same connection to these people as we did with Don Juan, but it was perfectly in line with the over-the-top drama of RHOA. It started with a wig stylist complaining to the driver, then quickly escalated into accusations about Drew’s wigs and another employee’s possible drinking problem. The whole thing was so ridiculous – especially when the stylist pointed out that the drama was exactly the kind of thing reality TV blogs love to report – and ended with Drew in tears. It was a chaotic mess that resolved itself quickly, which is typical of Drew’s storylines. At least she’s actively involved in the drama, unlike Phaedra.
Shamea is updating her family on her efforts to have a son with Gerald. I find the way this is discussed frustrating, as it suggests Shamea is fully in control of the situation and needs to do this alone to please her husband. We never hear Gerald’s side of things, though – he seems to have used up his screen time for the season. Without knowing what he thinks, he comes across as demanding about having a son, particularly considering the difficulties with Shiloh’s birth. It’s clearly stressful for Shamea to go through fertility treatments and also care for a child with special needs. That being said, I admire Shamea, Brittany Cartwright, and newcomer Mimi from Married to Medicine for openly sharing the joys and challenges of raising neurodivergent children.
Shamea gets a short break from all the conflict when she spends time with her family, but she eventually has to deal with her ongoing issues with Angela. Their dinner meeting quickly turns disastrous, becoming a fight instead of a chance to resolve things. Shamea immediately confronts Angela, even making a pointed comment to the waitress about who she’s meeting. They barely sit down before the argument escalates. Shamea explains she feels Angela’s behavior is inconsistent and that Angela falsely accusing her of stirring up trouble with K. Michelle feels like bullying.
Things quickly escalated when Angela called Shamea a victim, sparking a heated argument. Shamea fired back, sarcastically suggesting Angela use her supposed intuition to sell real estate. I think it’s strange Angela can move on from conflicts with everyone except Shamea, but I’m glad it led to such a dramatic scene! Angela then started attacking Shamea’s character, and despite the tension, a nearby waitress pretended not to notice. The insults continued, with Shamea accusing Charles of being out and about, and Angela immediately turning the accusation back on her. Shamea stormed off, and the show’s producers went back to a classic reality TV tactic: filming separate, shady confessionals in the parking lot. It’s good to see the drama back!
