There won’t be a new episode of Marshals tonight, May 31, 2026, and that’s because all the networks have been focused on planning their 2025-2026 season. CBS, in particular, has had a strong year, building on the success of established shows like NCIS and Tracker. They’ve also proven the potential of newer series such as Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and NCIS: Origins. Plus, new shows like Marshals, starring Luke Grimes, have quickly become popular with viewers.
This new series builds on the world of Yellowstone, continuing the story in Montana and introducing Beth and Rip’s chapter in Texas at the Dutton Ranch. Luke Grimes returns as Kayce Dutton in this first sequel to Taylor Sheridan’s modern Western saga, and the first to air on network television. Adapting to this new platform meant a slight change in how the story is told, blending familiar procedural elements with the style of the original Yellowstone. The result has been a huge success, making it the most-watched new show of the year, and leaving fans wanting more.
Marshals Season 1 Is Officially Over
Okay, fans of the Yellowstone universe, brace yourselves! We’re going to have a bit of a wait before we see what happens next with Kayce and his team. The good news is that Land Man (formerly Marshals) managed to wrap up its first season – all 13 episodes – pretty smoothly, with the finale hitting screens on May 24, 2026. But that means now, like many summer shows, it’s taken a break. This hiatus is a bit longer than the one we saw mid-season, so it’ll be a while before things pick up again.
Tonight, CBS is airing a rerun of the Yellowstone sequel in the same time slot that used to be home to the show Marshals. Episode 10, “Playing with Fire,” will be broadcast. It’s not yet clear if this will become a regular arrangement, but it’s a good way to keep viewers engaged with the series.
When Marshals Season 2 Will Release (& What To Expect)
Even before it aired, people expected the show Marshals to perform well for CBS. The popularity of the Yellowstone brand, and anything created by Taylor Sheridan, made it a likely success. Because of this, CBS quickly approved a second season. Instead of bringing it back during the winter, CBS plans to release the new season in fall 2026. While an exact date hasn’t been announced, it will likely premiere sometime between September and March.
Given the dangerous cliffhanger with Calvin and Andrea, it’s unlikely season 2 of Marshals will jump ahead in time. A big time skip would be frustrating for viewers eager to see what happens after that attack. Also, Tate could be in trouble now that we know Tom Weaver isn’t who he seems. The show might reveal Weaver’s true nature quickly, or it could stretch that storyline out, but it promises a compelling second season.
