IO Interactive, the studio behind the popular Hitman series, has been consistently improving and expanding that franchise. Now, they’ve taken on the challenge of creating a James Bond game, which is a huge undertaking. Reports suggest they invested a significant amount of effort and money into their recently released 007 project, First Light.
The game is receiving excellent reviews, currently holding an impressive 88 score on OpenCritic, placing it among the top 10 best-reviewed games of 2026. This success raises the question: what does this level of positive response mean for the future of the collaboration between IOI and the James Bond franchise?
Given the strong positive response from both critics and fans so far, IOI’s significant investment and the quality of their work suggest a bright future for this iconic British spy series.
The Investment in 007 First Light was Massive

A recent Reddit post, citing information from the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, reveals that the game 007 First Light took seven years to develop and cost approximately 1.3 billion Danish kroner – around $200 million US dollars.
A ton of resources were poured into the recently released 007 First Light.
To give you a sense of scale, consider the movie Casino Royale, which launched the highly popular and well-received era of James Bond films starring Daniel Craig. Reports indicate that Craig’s first Bond film cost between $100 million and $150 million to make.
It’s true that budgets were different in 2006, and estimates for the total cost of Casino Royale vary. However, even using the highest reported figures, the 007 First Light video game seems to have cost at least $50 million more to create. While large-scale video games are always expensive, this price difference is still quite remarkable.
A Signal for Future Bond Titles
We can likely expect more games featuring IOI and James Bond in the future. It would be surprising if the team put so much effort and resources into just one game without planning for further releases. IOI has hinted at this themselves, suggesting they aim to create at least three 007 games in total.
Given that First Light cost $200 million to create, we can anticipate that future games from IOI will be even more ambitious and visually stunning. First Light already boasts incredible graphics, high-quality production, and exciting moments, making us eager to see how IOI continues to raise the bar with their upcoming titles.

TopMob reviewer Christian Bognar was highly impressed with 007 First Light, giving it a 9 out of 10. We’re excited to see what IOI and Bond create in the future if they maintain this level of quality.
