The Silence Around Elden Ring Nightreign DLC 2 is Deafening

Elden Ring Nightreign has found its audience. When it first came out, it was unusual for a FromSoftware game to get mixed reviews – many scores landed around 7/10. However, after about a year, it’s become clear that Nightreign is a specialized game best suited for players who really enjoy the challenging combat style that FromSoftware is known for – the ‘Souls’ style.

The game has maintained a solid player base over time, though it hasn’t reached the same groundbreaking status as the original Elden Ring. Its appeal increased significantly last December with the release of The Forsaken Hollows DLC – the game’s first major expansion, following many free updates and improvements. This expansion added two new characters, a new shifting world area, and new bosses, including the popular Artorias the Abysswalker from Dark Souls 1. These additions have been well-received, especially by players who enjoy the game’s character building options. Now that the initial excitement has calmed down, many players are wondering when the next expansion will be released.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s Second DLC Isn’t Confirmed

Even though The Forsaken Hollows just came out in December 2025, many fans – including me – are already hoping for more content. The positive response highlights what made Elden Ring Nightreign so successful: it cleverly reimagines core gameplay elements from Elden Ring and other FromSoftware games. It’s a bit like teaming up with another player in Elden Ring; you might normally play a certain way, but you have to adapt your strategy when your ally has a different playstyle.

I’ve been playing Nightreign, and it’s really interesting how it takes things you’re used to in games and twists them around – it leads to some seriously unpredictable moments. Basically, Elden Ring Nightreign gives you a few different options and lets you play with them however you want, which is cool because it’s a roguelike, so things are always changing and you never quite know what’s going to happen.

More downloadable content for Elden Ring Nightreign is crucial because, unlike other FromSoftware titles, the base game doesn’t offer much replay value. You can’t really start a new campaign with a different character build; instead, you’re limited to shorter, randomized runs of about 30-40 minutes. Essentially, Nightreign heavily relies on content from the original Elden Ring, and that base content simply isn’t enough to keep players engaged for as long as top-tier roguelike games do.

Despite Radio Silence, We Might Still Get Another Elden Ring Nightreign DLC

Unlike many large game developers, FromSoftware tends to downplay expectations and then exceed them. However, this isn’t usually true of their fans – most of the hype about their games being groundbreaking comes from players, not FromSoftware themselves. A good example is the marketing for the excellent Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki said it would be about the size of the Limgrave area, but it actually turned out to be closer to half the size of the entire game map.

With FromSoftware becoming increasingly popular thanks to Elden Ring, it seems they’re being even more careful about what they share with fans. Building too much hype can actually hurt a game’s launch, as players often create unrealistic expectations, and online opinions can change quickly. If FromSoftware announces a second Elden Ring: Nightreign expansion too early, it could backfire. But waiting too long to announce it could also lead to people losing interest. It’s best to time any announcements carefully.

This approach is similar to how we launched The Forsaken Hollows, which we announced just under a month before it became available.

Kadokawa, FromSoftware’s parent company, reported in May 2026 that Elden Ring Nightreign is performing well, and its downloadable content is proving popular with players. This suggests the game, which is designed to be more accessible and focused on multiplayer, is meeting expectations. Because players are actively buying the expansions, it’s keeping people engaged with the game. If everyone involved – FromSoftware, Kadokawa, and Bandai Namco – is happy with how much money Forsaken Hollows has made, it’s very likely they’ll continue developing Nightreign in the future.

FromSoftware is already working on a new Nintendo Switch 2 game, The Duskbloods, planned for release this year. However, a successful, ongoing live-service game like Nightreign would be a great addition to their portfolio. A large expansion for Nightreign, similar to The Forsaken Hollows, would likely be easier to create than a completely new game, making it a good project to complement their 2026 plans. With Nightreign’s first anniversary approaching this summer, and the Summer Games Fest happening beforehand, we can probably expect to hear about another update or expansion soon.
