Subnautica 2 begins with a Fabricator inside your Lifepod, but the starting version isn’t very advanced. While it’s currently the most helpful tool you have, it’s a simplified, basic model, not a fully functional Fabricator.
You’ll soon discover that your Lifepod’s Fabricator can’t make everything. Some items need a fully working Fabricator to craft, and the game doesn’t tell you how to build one.
Build a Base

Okay, so the Fabricator in your Lifepod? It’s kinda busted and you can’t fix it right now. I really wish we could, but for now, if you want a working Fabricator, you’ve gotta build a base underwater to get one. It’s a bit annoying, but that’s how it is for now!
Okay, so getting started is pretty simple! You basically need to collect Titanium and Quartz around your Lifepod. Titanium is super important because you use it to build everything – all the rooms and pretty much every part you’ll need, so grab a good amount of it. Quartz isn’t as urgent right now; you only need a little for the Hatch, but you’ll collect more later when you start adding stuff to your base.
Build a Fabricator
If you have a building or structure, you can easily add a Fabricator to it using the Habitat Builder tool. Simply place the tool on a wall, and you’ll need these materials to get started:
- 1 Titanium
- 1 Copper
- 1 Quartz
Copper is usually found near your Lifepod, like Titanium and Quartz. I discovered it around underwater rocks, especially inside caves and tunnels in that area. When gathering by hand, look for nodes on the ground or above you – especially on the ceilings of tunnels.

Head back to your base and construct the Fabricator. Once built, you’ll be able to craft items that were previously unavailable because you needed a working Fabricator. Essentially, building your own Fabricator unlocks everything, even though it looks identical to the one already in your Lifepod.
Now you can begin building essential items to advance in the game, like the Repair Tool and Sonic Resonator. Unlike the Fabricator, you’ll need to explore Habitats and shipwrecks to scan objects and unlock their blueprints. Following the instructions from NOA will help you find black boxes and get your bearings. Just remember to scan every item you find in each location in Subnautica 2.
