During the recent Creative Arts Emmys, The Last of Us‘s second season clinched its first-ever Emmy win. This recognition was bestowed in the category of Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series, specifically for the episode “Through the Valley,” which is the second installment of the current season and also the most emotionally distressing one.
The production was honored across various technical and creative domains, such as Best Set Design, Casting, Video Editing, Modern Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup, Music Selection, Audio Mixing, and Visual Effects. Additionally, its behind-the-scenes film received a nomination in the Short Documentary category.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about The Last of Us this season! Although it had fewer nominations than its impressive first season with 24, it still secured a total of 16 – not too shabby!
One of the standout moments was Pedro Pascal’s (Joel) Best Actor nomination, despite his limited screen time in just three episodes. On the flip side, Bella Ramsey (Ellie) earned a well-deserved Best Actress nod.
The supporting cast also made their mark with Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), Catherine O’Hara (Gail), Jeffrey Wright (Isaac), and Joe Pantoliano (Eugene) all receiving acting recognition.
And to top it off, The Last of Us was nominated for Best Drama Series for the second year in a row – bravo to the entire team!
Although the show failed to secure nominations in the writing, directing categories, or for Isabela Merced’s performance as Dina, some viewers have expressed dismay. Despite these oversights, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann voiced appreciation towards the Television Academy and acknowledged the team: “To witness The Last of Us Part II’s narrative being honored and gaining fresh admirers has brought great joy to our studio.
Amped up, I can hardly contain my excitement as we gear up for the confirmed third season of the show, focusing on Abby’s journey. But alas, a release date is still under wraps. In its first season, our series stole the limelight by winning eight Emmys from 24 nominations, with Nick Offerman even bagging an award for Outstanding Guest Actor. This year, some heavy hitters like HBO’s The Penguin and The White Lotus, alongside Apple’s Severance, have dominated the nomination count.
